Il talento di Paolo Fresu e Daniele di Bonaventura incontra Giuseppe Verdi nell'originale concerto commissione del Festival Verdi in prima assoluta In maggiore per Verdi, martedi 2 ottobre 2018 alle ore 20.30 presso l'Auditorium Paganini, realizzato in collaborazione con Societa dei Concerti di Parma. Dopo l'omaggio a Puccini nell'album In maggiore, Fresu (tromba, flicorno ed effetti) e di Bonaventura (bandoneon) dedicano un intero concerto al genio di Giuseppe Verdi, giocando e improvvisando con le melodie immortali del maestro che trovano nel linguaggio jazz colori, armonie e inedite suggestioni.

The immigrant experience and evolution of diversity in America is highlighted by one of the nation's most diverse orchestras, Chicago Sinfonietta, and their spectacular, multimedia program of I.D.: Images of Diversity. Following its Millennium Park performance in early September, I.D.: Images of Diversity officially kicks off the Chicago Sinfonietta's 2018-2019 season. The orchestra and select special guests will perform concerts that invoke themes of the American Dream from several cultural perspectives today, September 22 at 8 p.m. at Wentz Concert Hall at North Central College, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville, and Monday, September 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago.

Portland Opera is thrilled to begin the 2018/19 season with Verdi's La Traviata. A crown jewel of grand opera, La Traviata tells the story of the brilliant and beautiful Parisian courtesan Violetta Valery as she falls in love with Alfredo Germont. Haunted by her reputation and illness, Violetta navigates sexual politics and confronts societal expectations as she braves a broken heart. Portland Opera will present four performances of La Traviata on November 2, 4 (matinee), 8, and 10 at the Keller Auditorium.

The Opera de Montreal opened its 39th season on September 15th, 2018 with Giuseppe Verdi's opera Rigoletto at the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier in Place des Arts. This 19th-century classic is steered by well-known director Michael Cavanagh as well as Italian conductor Carlo Montanaro, who leads the Orchestre Metropolitain and the Opera de Montreal Chorus. Rigoletto is performed by a mainly Canadian cast including Montreal's very own mezzo-soprano Carolyn Sproule.

Named for the groundbreaking African American contralto, the Marian Anderson Vocal Award recognizes a young American singer in opera, oratorio, or recital repertoire with outstanding promise for a significant career. Washington National Opera (WNO) named bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green as the 2018 recipient earlier this year and is pleased to present him in concert on Thursday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. Pacific Opera Project (POP) joins forces with The Occidental College Glee Club for two performances of Giuseppe Verdi's La traviata on October 27 and 28, 2018 at Occidental College's Thorne Hall. Following a wonderful experience together producing The Rake's Progress in 2016, the collaboration allows POP to present Verdi's masterpiece with a more than 50-member chorus of Occidental Glee Club students and a POP professional chorus, plus a large orchestra.

"I don't like works which require an explanation," begins Timothy Nelson, the new Artistic Director for the In Series, at Sunday's performance of Viva VERDI. Even after Mr. Nelson describes the performance with great detail, he encourages the audience to embrace their inevitable confusion. Instead, Mr. Nelson explains, this is a work that should be felt rather than understood. Keeping true to Mr. Nelson's suggestion, Viva VERDI is a work that only a genius could fully understand. Nevertheless, it is one of the most emotionally stirring performances I have seen in recent memory.

San Francisco Opera celebrates the opening of its 96th Season with the annual San Francisco Chronicle Presents Opera in the Park on Sunday, September 9 at 1:30 p.m. The free concert in Golden Gate Park features vocal artists and conductors from the Company's fall season performing with the San Francisco Opera Orchestra in a program of arias, duets, popular songs and orchestral favorites. San Francisco Opera General Director Matthew Shilvock serves as master of ceremonies for the afternoon.
