Sarasota Opera Expands Summer Movie Series In 2018

Sarasota Opera is pleased to announce the line-up for the 2018 season of 'HD at the Opera House' and "Classic Movies at the Opera House". This weekly series of filmed performances has allowed Sarasota Opera to expand its programming from the fall and winter season to year-around. The 2018 "HD at the Opera House" series will open on Sunday, May 20th and run through September 30th and will include presentations of Ballet and Theater from some of the world's most famous venues and companies including the Royal Opera House; Teatro alla Scala in Milan; Royal Shakespeare Company; Vienna State Opera; and the Royal Ballet. Each presentation will begin at 1:30pm.

Santa Barbara Symphony Announces New Season

Subscription sales are underway for the Santa Barbara Symphony's 65th anniversary season, which will open October 20 with compelling works by Dohnanyi, Gershwin, and Berlioz. The orchestra will present a total of nine deeply satisfying programs at the Granada Theatre over the course of the season, including three non-subscription concerts. Series packages start at $163.

The Opéra de Montréal has an exciting 39th season planned for the 2018-2019 production year. The Place des Arts lineup includes classics like Rigoletto, Das Rheingold, Carmen and the anticipated Canadian premiere of the jazz-opera Champion. Daniele Rustioni leads the Opéra National de Lyon's 2018 Festival in three operas by Giuseppe Verdi, March 16 through April 6, 2018. In celebration of Rustioni's first season at the Opéra de Lyon's principal conductor, Opéra de Lyon has dedicated its annual festival to the works of Verdi, which have played an essential role in Rustioni's career. The 2018 Festival explores themes of power, politics, corruption, and hope with three of Verdi's less-often performed operas: Macbeth, the 1867 Paris Version of Don Carlos sung in the original French, and Attila. Rustioni will conduct the Opéra de Lyon Orchestra and Chorus in all the festival performances.

Malmo Opera's production of Verdi's opera masterpiece, RIGLETTO is premiering Saturday next week in Malmo (March 24th). The show is known for being one of the most popular operas and is based upon an earlier play by the famous French author Victor Hugo called 'Le roi s'amuse' (The King Amuses Himself). Hugo has a history of writing plays and novels that take on the establishment. Another obvious, similarly-themed, tale is Hugo's classic 'Les Miserables.'
