This September, The Firehouse Theatre will present Elton John and Time Rice's AIDA, directed by Artistic Director, Derek Whitener. The heart wrenching pop-rock musical about an imprisoned Nubian princess will open on September 7th in the old Farmers Branch Firehouse, with performances running through September 23rd. Tickets range from $13-$25.

San Francisco Opera announces the winner of the 2018 Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Emerging Stars Competition. Brazilian tenor Atalla Ayan, who made his Company debut as Alfredo in Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata last fall, was named “2018 Emerging Star of the Year” based on a popular vote conducted online at sfopera.com from July 9–July 31, 2018. As winner of the competition, now in its third year, Ayan receives a $10,000 cash prize.

The immigrant experience and evolution of diversity in America is highlighted by one of the nation's most diverse orchestras, Chicago Sinfonietta, and their spectacular, multimedia program of I.D.: Images of Diversity. Following its Millennium Park performance in early September, I.D.: Images of Diversity officially kicks off the Chicago Sinfonietta's 2018-2019 season. The orchestra and select special guests will perform concerts that invoke themes of the American Dream from several cultural perspectives on Saturday, September 22 at 8 p.m. at Wentz Concert Hall at North Central College, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville, and Monday, September 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago.

LA Opera Presents Free Live Simulcast Of DON CARLO In Two Locations

Back by popular demand, LA Opera's fifth season of annual live simulcasts-Opera in the Park and Opera at the Beach-will continue at two locations this year. At 6pm on September 22, 2018, LA Opera's season-opening performance of Giuseppe Verdi's Don Carlo will be transmitted live in high-definition video from nine cameras at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to large LED screens at El Cariso Community Regional Park (13100 Hubbard Street, Sylmar CA 91342) and at Santa Monica Pier (200 Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, 90401). The performance stars Placido Domingo, the company's Eli and Edythe Broad General Director, as Rodrigo, and will be conducted by James Conlon, LA Opera's Richard Seaver Music Director.

Verdi's Nabucco has opened at St. Louis' Union Avenue Opera, and it is a remarkably fine production. Of the many beautiful shows that this amazing small company has presented in its twenty-four seasons Nabucco is, perhaps, the most vocally gorgeous of all. This is due not only to the stellar quality of the principals, but also-and especially-to the quite wonderful work of the chorus. In this opera the chorus plays a starring role.
