As soon as Dael Orlandersmith walks into the room, you feel the force of her presence. This is despite, or perhaps because of, the fact that she's not even facing the audience, but rather examining a series of old photographs pinned to the wall. She makes her way around the room, eventually climbing onto the stage, looking out into the audience, and welcoming you to the theatre. And at that point, you're pretty much done for. Ms. Orlandersmith is a performer of the highest order, and you'd be best to take a deep breath now, because you might forget to for the next 80 minutes. (more...)

The Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, UC Davis is pleased to announce two new additions to the 2015-16 season: Australia's acclaimed CIRCA brings its latest cirque performance Beyond for five performances from April 17-23; and soprano Patricia Racette will perform a cabaret program entitled Diva on Detour with accompanist Craig Terry on Wednesday, May 4, at 8 p.m. All of these performances will take place with artists and audiences together on the Jackson Hall Stage in our cabaret setup, providing an exceptionally intimate view of the work. Join Pater Sheppard Skaeverd on a journey of intricate sonatas through to his muchly celebrated concertante works for violin, viola and piano. Nashville-based polymath Michael Alec Rose will present the exclusive world premiere of a series of violin pieces inspired by intimate walks across Dartmoor, whilst exploring its rich history along the way. Elaine Paige is heading back to the New York stage later this month in PIAF: A CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION, and she's opening up with Out's Michael Musto about her career. The West End, who originated roles in Evita, Cats, and more, legend told Musto: 'The more years pass, I look back and think, "Who was that girl?" It seems a lifetime ago. I consider myself very lucky to have been part of the new musicals coming out of England. Eines der beruhmtesten Musicals uberhaupt ist zum ersten Mal an der Komischen Oper Berlin zu sehen: Frederick Loewes und Alan Jay Lerners MY FAIR LADY. In der Inszenierung des ehemaligen Intendanten Andreas Homoki sind Katharine Mehrling (ab 15.12. im Wechsel mit Winnie Bowe) als Blumenmadchen Eliza Doolittle und Max Hopp als verschrobener Professor Higgins zu erleben. Die Neuproduktion siedelt die Geschichte in einem sinnbildhaften Raum an, mit Kostumen im Stil der 1920er Jahre. Die Musikalische Leitung ubernimmt die Erste Kapellmeisterin Kristiina Poska.
