Paul Rudnick's 'The New Century' - Auditions At The Waterfront Playhouse

The Waterfront Playhouse announces auditions for 'The New Century' by Paul Rudnick, which is part of their 2010/11 season. The auditions will be held on Thursday, October 14, 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Waterfront Playhouse. Director Rich Simone will be looking for five experienced comedic actors between the ages of 20 to 60. The play requires actors who are comfortable with the verbal demands of the script, as well as fitting the specific types of the characters. A complete character breakdown is on our website: www.WaterfrontPlayhouse.org. Production dates for 'The New Century' are April 5 to April 23 with rehearsals beginning sometime early March. All of the roles are open and all are paid.

'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' will be directed by Danny Weathers with musical direction by Michael Fauss and choreography by Penny Leto. The musical has a book by Jeffrey Lane with music and lyrics by David Yazbek. The musical is based on the movie of the same name starring Michael Caine and Steve Martin. It ran on Broadway for almost 2 years and was nominated for 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Award Winning Musical 'The Full Monty' At The Waterfront

'The Full Monty' is set in Buffalo, New York, where the local steel mill has just folded. Buddies Jerry and Dave have been laid off and are struggling to survive. After seeing the wildly enthusiastic reactions of their wives and girlfriends to a Chippendale's style troupe, Jerry comes up with the idea of doing a one-night performance to make some quick money. He hires four other unemployed factory workers for the act and names their troupe, 'Hot Metal.' Unfortunately, the initial rehearsals are anything but hot. And who wants to see a bunch of 'regular' guys strip anyway? To boost ticket sales, Jerry announces they will outdo the Chippendale's and go 'the full monty.' But do they have the....nerve?

Lela Elam In 'No Child...' At The Waterfront

While dazzling Key West audiences with her portrayal of Mrs. Muller in'Doubt' last season, Lela fell in love with Key West, and Key West took her into their collective hearts. After hearing of Lela's triumphant appearance at Gable Stage in 'No Child...,' Danny Weathers, artistic director for the Waterfront, scheduled the play for the '09/10 season and is thrilled to have Lela return in this amazing performance. A member of Actors Equity, Lela has won South Florida's prestigious Carbonell Award, and has appeared in such productions as 'In the Continuum,' 'Just A Kiss,' 'Intimate Apparel,' Seven Guitars,' 'Radio Golf' and the recent 'Naked Women Fully Clothed.'

'Everybody's Girl' - Vicki Roush In Concert At The Waterfront

Vicki has starred at the Waterfront in numerous productions, including 'Olympus On My Mind,' 'Lookin' Up,' 'A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum,' and many others. She has also appeared in the Waterfront's Sondheim concert, 'Encore!' and this year's 'Broadway With A Twist.' In 1991, she had a sold-out concert at TWFAC called 'Diva By The Sea.' She has also performed in 'Falsettoland,' 'Cole' and the various incarnations of 'Nunsense,' as well as appearing in 'Follies' with the Key West Pops. She was recently the featured singer for the annual NetRoots Nation conference, attended by President Bill Clinton.

'Twelve Angry Men' At The Waterfront Playhouse

The Waterfront Playhouse opens their 70th Platinum mainstage season with the crackling thriller 'Twelve Angry Men' by Reginald Rose. Considered by many to be the greatest courtroom drama ever written, 'Twelve Angry Men' is the gripping tale of the emotional fireworks that take place in the jury room of a murder trial. 'Stunning...we leave the theater a bit better than we entered it.' - New York Magazine. Directed by artistic director Danny Weathers, the production features a top notch ensemble of Key West actors. The season begins with 'Twelve Angry Men' by Reginald Rose (Dec. 17 to Jan. 9), one of the greatest courtroom dramas ever written. Directed by Danny Weathers, it will feature a cast of Key West's finest actors. This gripping play examines a group of citizens deciding the guilt or innocence of a 16 year old boy who's accused of killing his father and will have you on the edge of your seat. Bobby and Danny have been entertaining Key West audiences for many years. 'A Couple of Swells' is a musical journey through their experiences of growing up, adventures in show biz and finally settling in Key West. The line-up ranges from 'Spamalot' to 'Kiss Me Kate,' with pop and cabaret standards, as well as songs from Bobby's highly successful 'Bobby In The Lobby' series at the Tennessee Williams Theatre.

Key West Auditions For Waterfront's Platinum Season

The auditions will be held on Sunday, May 10th, 2 to 5 pm in the theater. Artistic director, Danny Weathers, will be seeing people for next season's production of 'Twelve Angry Men,' the musical, 'The Full Monty' and 'BitchSlap!' Casting for these shows may not be finalized until the fall, but the hope is to cast some of the roles from these auditions and possibly for future productions.

Denis Hyland ('Rocky Horror Show,' 'Equus,') plays Jack the super smooth proprietor of the Reefer Den, with Mary Falconer ('The Best Man,' 'Urinetown') playing Mae - the long-suffering hostess of the Den. Nulita Loder ('Urinetown,' 'My Way') plays Sally, the seductive Reefer Slut, and Michael Aaglan ('The Best Man') plays Ralph, a former fraternity man who's become a giggling reefer addict. Kristen Wilson ('Urinetown,' 'Bat Boy') plays the Placard Girl who parades lessons to be learned from the dangers of the leafy menace.

Well-known as a versatile performer, Carmen has been on every theatrical stage in Key West. Her musical theater appearances include 'Show Tune: the Music of Jerry Herman,' 'Meshuggah-Nuns,' 'My Way,' 'Pump Boys and Dinettes,' at the Red Barn. At the Waterfront, she's appeared in 'Penny Lane' and this season's opening ENCORE concert. At TWFAC, she played lead roles in 'Jesus Christ Superstar' and 'Little Shop of Horrors.' She has appeared each year in the 'Bobby In The Lobby' series at TWT, and will soon appear in Bobby's Johnny Mercer tribute with Bruce Moore.

Playwright Paul Rudnick has written some of the funniest plays seen both on and off Broadway, including The New Century, Valhalla, The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told, I Hate Hamlet and Jeffrey, for which he won an Obie and an Outer Critics Circle Award. His articles and essays have appeared in The New Yorker, Esquire, Vogue, Vanity Fair and The New York Times. His is rumored to be quite close to Premiere Magazine's film critic, Libby Gelman-Waxner. His screenplays include Addams Family Values, the screen adaptation of Jeffrey, and In & Out. The New York Times calls Rudnick 'one of the funniest quip-meisters on the planet.'
