May 20, 2009  8:30 pm (PLEASE NOTE SPECIAL CURTAIN TIME)

THE WATERFRONT PLAYHOUSE

The 2008/09 Waterfront Playhouse season will end on a high note - literally - with "A Couple of Swells," a concert with Bobby Nesbitt and Danny Weathers on Saturday, May 30 at 8:30 pm. The one night only concert will feature selections from the Broadway stage, the American Songbook and pop standards, as well as comedy, dance and keyboards. Joining them onstage will be their special guests Carmen Rodriguez and Michael Fauss.  The evening will also feature a post-performance gala party sponsored by Charlie Allen, Dennis Beaver and Bert Whitt with catering by Great Events.

Bobby and Danny have been entertaining Key West audiences for many years. "A Couple of Swells" is a musical journey through their experiences of growing up, adventures in show biz and finally settling in Key West. The line-up ranges from "Spamalot" to "Kiss Me Kate," with pop and cabaret standards, as well as songs from Bobby's highly successful "Bobby In The Lobby" series at the Tennessee Williams Theatre.

Bobby is one of Key West's most beloved entertainers. He's performed in every major Key West nightclub and piano bar and is currently performing at The Keys and Aqua. He's performed at the Red Barn in "Jerry Herman's Showtune," at TWFAC in "Oh Coward" and at the Waterfront in his concert "With A Little Help From My Friends" (also at TWFAC).  He's  performed in Munich, London and other international sites. This winter he sailed with the Regent Cruise Ship Line on the Voyager and on the Mariner with his Oscar Hammerstein show, which also featured Bruce Moore.  This August he'll perform "Noel and Cole" on the Silversea, sailing Venice to Monte Carlo. In Nov. he will be doing a Cole Porter show at the Metropolitan Museum in NYC.

Danny is the artistic director of the Waterfront Playhouse, where he has directed many plays and musicals, including "Reefer Madness," "Doubt," "Regrets Only," "Urinetown," "The Best Man," "Equus," "The Glass Menagerie" and many others. He's also directed and appeared at the Red Barn and TWFAC, where he was the artistic director for the Founders Society. Some of his local acting credits include "The Big Bang," "The Mystery of Irma Vep," "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, abridged" and "When Pigs Fly." He was in the Broadway production of "A Chorus Line" and has many regional credits, including the Guthrie Theatre.

Carmen Rodriguez is well-known to Key West audiences having appeared on most stages, including her sold-out solo concerts at the Waterfront, as well as Bobby In The Lobby. Michael Fauss (musical director for "Musical of Musicals," "Reefer Madness," etc.) will be at the keyboards.

Tickets are $40 and may be purchased by calling the box office at 305-294-5015 or online at www.waterfrontplayhouse.org.  Please be advised tickets are selling quickly.
