The Waterfront Playhouse Announces Auditions For 'Stepping Out'
The Waterfront Playhouse announces auditions for "Stepping Out" by Richard Harris. The auditions will be held on Saturday, October 17 from 2 to 5pm at the Waterfront Playhouse, located in Mallory Square. Director/Choreographer, Cameron Murray will be looking to cast nine women for the roles. All ages (from 18 to 60ish) and ethnicities are welcomed and will be considered. The cast breakdown is available at www.WaterfrontPlayhouse.org.
The auditions will consist of cold readings from the script, as well as a simple dance combination. Some experience with tap dancing is a plus; however, tap ability is not an absolute requirement. If you have tap shoes, please bring them.
"Stepping Out" is a touching comedy about a group of would-be-hoofers struggling to conquer their inhibitions and awkwardness in a tap class. Mavis, an ex-professional dancer tries to whip the motley but loveable crew into shape for an upcoming dance recital. The results are hilarious and moving as the class overcomes fears, conflicts and left feet to eventually triumph. A range of personalities, body types, dance ability and ethnicities contribute to the dynamics of the play and all are encouraged to audition.
The dates for the production are May 6 to May 29 with performances Thursday through Saturday. Rehearsals will begin late March. All roles are paid.
If you have questions, please contact Cameron Murray at cmkeywest@aol.com or Danny Weathers at artistic_director@WaterfrontPlayhouse.org.
