Hudson Theatre Company present the American premiere of Francois Archambault's You Will Remember Me (translated by Bobby Theodore). Edouard's world is slowly changing. The highly respected professor, political figure and ladies' man can recite famous historical dates but can't remember what he ate for breakfast. When a suppressed memory springs to life in the form of a cell phone-obsessed young girl he confuses for a lost family member, he gets a chance to reinvent the past and heal old wounds. A touching and refreshingly funny story about family, memory, and connection. (more...)

BWW Review: Liz Callaway Holds a Love Fest for Richard Maltby & David Shire at Lincoln Center's American SongbookBWW Review: Liz Callaway Holds a Love Fest for Richard Maltby & David Shire at Lincoln Center's American Songbook
by Alix Cohen - Apr 1, 2016

There are audible sighs of pleasurable recognition from the audience at the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse at Lincoln Center (on March 30) when Liz Callaway's band plays opening bars from "The Story Goes On" (Baby)." Songwriting partners Richard Maltby & David Shire have been "in" Liz Callaway's life since she was a teenager with exposure to her parents' extensive Barbra Streisand collection (the icon sang Maltby/Shire) and a recording of Starting Here, Starting Now. Her first New York cabaret presentation (at The Duplex) opened with "Just Across the River" from the revue. That show lead to an audition for a piece directed by Richard Maltby Jr. which eventually paved the way for Callaway's role in the collaborators' musical Baby. The young actress thought she was helping out writers she admired by letting them hear new material out loud, but, in fact, was auditioning. (This is actually not difficult to believe.) And the rest is history. (more...)

by Alix Cohen - Nov 24, 2015

Ann Hampton Callaway's new Thanksgiving week show at Feinstein's/54 Below (what has become an annual holiday appearance), Feminine Persuasion, celebrates women songwriters who excel at the craft, one of the few creative sectors where men have not held them back. Covering the waterfront, her selection includes, in part, Peggy Lee, whom she calls “the first singer/songwriter” (perhaps the first highly visible and successful one), Carolyn Lee “a secretary who didn't know how to take dictation,” “optimistic” Dorothy Fields--the first woman to win an Oscar for a song--and baby boomers Carole King and Joni Mitchell, and current pop star, Adele. “These women were/are trailblazers who broke through with their own voices.” (more...)
