Peninsula Players Theatre will present a reading of 'Go Back for Murder' by Agatha Christie, a thrilling whodunit from the Queen of Crime, at Bjorklunden, 7p.m., Monday, Feb. 2. This play reading is produced with support from and in coordination with Door County Reads and its exploration of 'Ordinary Grace' by William Kent Krueger. Join the Players reading and travel back in time with Carla Le Marchant as she tries to prove her mother's innocence in her father's death. Admission is free. (more...)

Chicago Shakespeare Theater presents Short Shakespeare! Macbeth, a 75-minute abridgment of William Shakespeare's tale of political intrigue and personal ambition. This new production from Director Kirsten Kelly, whose decade-long history with CST includes being the co-founder and director of the nationally recognized CPS Shakespeare! program, makes for an outstanding introduction to Shakespeare. In addition to public performances each Saturday, this production will welcome 1,000 students per day during its five-week run in the Courtyard Theater, followed by an extensive tour to schools across the Midwest. Short Shakespeare! Macbeth will be performed for the public Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. now through February 14, 2015. After each performance, the actors remain on stage for a question-and-answer session, before joining the audience in the Lobby for one-on-one conversations and photo opportunities. (more...)

The Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) presents Dunsinane, playwright David Greig's majestic sequel to Shakespeare's Macbeth, presented by the National Theatre of Scotland and the Royal Shakespeare Company, and directed by Roxana Silbert. First premiered by the Royal Shakespeare Company at Hampstead Theatre in 2010, this tour marks the U.S. premiere of Dunsinane after a highly successful tour to East Asia and Russia in spring 2014. Hailed by The Guardian as "a work of compelling intelligence, provocation and wit," Dunsinane will play at the Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW) from February 4-21, 2015. (more...)

Definition Theatre Company has announced the second show of its 2014/15 season, an adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House. Directed by Writers Theatre Artistic Director Michael Halberstam, A Doll's House runs April 3 - May 3, 2015; the press performance is on Thursday, April 9 at 7:30pm. Performances are scheduled Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 4:00pm at the Chopin Theatre (1543W Division Street). Tickets, $25, are on sale now at definitiontheatre.org. Written by David Greig and directed by Roxana Silbert, this World's Stage Series presentation explores one man's attempt to restore peace in a country consumed by war following the bloody conclusion of Shakespeare's timeless drama. Dunsinane takes Scotland's real history and dramatically reimagines the chapter after Macbeth's death. On the coldest night of the year, spirits were high at The Call Bar in the Andersonville neighborhood, as the 2014 BroadwayWorld Chicago Awards Celebration was held on Wednesday, January 7, 2015. Hosted by BroadwayWorld Chicago Regional Editor Paul W. Porchlight Music Theatre and Artistic Director Michael Weber have announced the next production in the second season of Chicago's hit 'lost' musicals in staged concert series, Porchlight Revisits... City of Angels, featuring book by Larry Gelbart (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, M*A*S*H), music by Cy Coleman (Sweet Charity, Barnum) and lyrics by David Zippel (The Goodbye Girl, Disney's Mulan) with direction by Christopher Pazdernik and music direction by Aaron Benham. City of Angels is presented for two-nights-only Tuesday, March 3 and Wednesday, March 4 at 8:00 p.m. and is performed on the set of Porchlight's Sondheim on Sondheim (February 6 - March 15) on nights when there are no performances at Stage 773, 1225 W. The Old Globe today announced the full cast and creative team for Murder for Two, with book and music by Joe Kinosian and book and lyrics by Kellen Blair. Globe veteran Scott Schwartz (A Room with a View at the Globe, The Hunchback of Notre Dame at La Jolla Playhouse) returns to direct Blair and Kinosian's Off Broadway hit, a vaudevillian mystery musical with an energetic two-man cast. Murder for Two will run January 24 - March 1 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. (more...)
