The Invisible Dog to Present MINOR CHARACTER, 6/17-25The Invisible Dog to Present MINOR CHARACTER, 6/17-25
by BWW News Desk - May 17, 2016

The Invisible Dog will present MINOR CHARACTER, (June 17-25) by Brooklyn based theater company New Saloon. In this kaleidoscopic adaptation of Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya, a cast of 16 performers collage a century's worth of English translations - from the flowery 1916 version to Google Translate's profoundly nonsensical rendition - into one sprawling, intimate, quietly disastrous evening that culminates with an entirely new adaptation. BWW Review: Theatre UCF's Silent REELING Recreates Buster Keaton SillinessBWW Review: Theatre UCF's Silent REELING Recreates Buster Keaton Silliness
by Matt Tamanini - Feb 24, 2016

We've all heard the saying, 'They don't make 'em like they used to.' Now, thanks to Theatre UCF's REELING, running through February 28th, they actually do still make 'em like they used to, complete with banana peels, pratfalls, and not a single spoken word. This one-of-a-kind play recreates the zany charms and enthusiastic silliness of the classic silent films of Buster Keaton. Written by Barry Kornhauser, REELING features an original, era-appropriate soundtrack by Michael Koerner that underscores all of the madcap action. While REELING won't make you forget the brilliance of Keaton, Fatty Arbuckle, or Charlie Chaplin, it will make you nostalgic for a time when there was no greater revenge than a pie in the face. BWW Reviews: A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM at Cabrillo Music TheatreBWW Reviews: A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM at Cabrillo Music Theatre
by Cary Ginell - Feb 1, 2016

Laurel and Hardy must be smiling in the comedy Valhalla. Cabrillo Music Theatre's near-perfect production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, which opened last night at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza's Scherr Forum, brings back the classic, broad humor from vaudeville, performed by an inspired cast of crazies who not only aren't afraid of anything going wrong, but are probably HOPING for mishaps that would destroy any other show. This is, of course, because Forum is one of those shows where spontaneity and the unexpected is almost as obligatory as Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart's uproarious script and Stephen Sondheim's witty lyrics. Dallas Chamber Symphony to Present THE GOAT, 2/16Dallas Chamber Symphony to Present THE GOAT, 2/16
by BWW News Desk - Jan 22, 2016

Silent film star Buster Keaton was a master of turning wrong-place-wrong-time situations into absolute hilarity, and perhaps nowhere is that more on display than in “The Goat”. Keaton's character finds himself on a “wanted” poster just because he was standing near a photographer, and that's just the beginning of his troubles in this 1921 classic. Now you can see the movie in all its glory at Dallas City Performance Hall with a new score by Jon Kull, whose film credits include “Avatar” and “The Hunger Games”. Before the movie starts, the Dallas Chamber Symphony will play works by Hindemith and Moravec to warm you up. (more...)
