MCC THEATER has announced that indie film star Greta Gerwig will now be joined by Max Baker, Jason Butler Harner, Lucy Owen, Cara Seymour, and Scott Shepherd in the American premiere of Penelope Skinner's celebrated play The Village Bike, the final production of MCC's 2013-14 Main Stage season. This completes casting. The Village Bike-which begins rehearsals today-will be directed by Sam Gold, who recently directed the much-raved new musical Fun Home and this season's The Realistic Jones on Broadway. The Village Bike will premiere at The Lucille Lortel Theatre(121 Christopher Street, NYC) beginning May 22, 2014 with an official opening on June 10, 2014. Tony Award Nominated Producer Matthew Weaver (Rock of Ages) of MediaWeaver Entertainment - a movie, TV and stage production company - has acquired the theatrical stage rights to the trailblazing musical variety television series Soul Train. Created in 1970 by visionary Don Cornelius, Soul Train famously introduced the world to generations of new music and a whole new series of dance moves and styles on a weekly basis. Weaver acquired the rights from Soul Train Holdings, LLC. Weaver is now in talks with theater and film notables to come on board as the creative team for the Broadway production. (more...)

Bernard Haitink will return to the New York Philharmonic to conduct two weeks of performances highlighting works by Austrian composers - Berg, Webern, and Mahler - and Beethoven, who spent much of his career in Austria.
