Recently, the term intermission has taken on a new meaning in the theatre community. While we usually use it as a term to signify a break in a show, we have recently modified it to a break in theatre productions due to COVID19. While we may not be able to gather as a theatre community to sit in a theatre for a show, some theatres are getting creative in how they present shows this summer. One of them is Des Moines Playhouse. I attended a dress rehearsal of their socially distanced production of 'Love Letters,' which opens on June 12.

Broadway's Best Shows, a new home for entertaining, engaging content, long form features and exclusive access to Broadway's Best, continues tonight with A.R. The Des Moines Playhouse Announces Live Theatre Drive-in

The Des Moines Playhouse is keeping theatre LIVE in Des Moines with a unique new initiative: Live Theatre Drive-in. Starting June 12 and continuing nearly every weekend through Aug. 15, The Playhouse will present three, two-person cast plays in its parking lot, with audiences remaining safely in their cars listening via a radio frequency.

Music Theatre of Connecticut MainStage, Fairfield County's professional award-winning theatre company currently in its 33rd Season, will start the new year off with Sylvia, by A.R. Gurney. Sylvia is a smart, playful, and occasionally gritty comedy about two 'empty-nesters' who meet a dog that quickly becomes a bone of contention between them and tests their marriage to a hilarious and touching degree. Sylvia will run February 7th-23rd with performances on Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 4pm and 8pm and Sundays at 2pm.
