Michael Michetti BIO

Michael Michetti is a theater director with many credits in regional theater, civic light opera, dinner theater and AEA 99-seat theater. A three-time Drama-Logue Award winner for his direction, he has served as artistic director for two theater companies. Michetti conceived and directed the musical Babes, which received many Los Angeles-area awards including the Los Angeles Drama Critics Award for its score. He has served as dramaturge for a number of plays and has written stage adaptations of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray and Charles Dickens' Hard Times. Michetti holds a B.F.A. with an emphasis in directing from the University of Southern California's drama conservatory program.

Interview: John Douglas Thompson On Providing a More Thorough Perspective of William Jennings Bryan in INHERIT THE WIND

A re-imagined production of Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee’s Inherit the Wind is currently playing on the Pasadena Playhouse stage, just extended through December 3, 2023. Michael Michetti directs the cast, led by Alfred Molina & John Douglas Thompson as the battling lawyers in a trial inspired by the Scopes Monkey trials in 1925. Rounding out the talented company: Chris Perfetti, Abubakr Al, David Aaron Baker, Rachel Hilson, Jared, Brian Calì, Marlene Forte, Matt Gomez Hidaka, Thomas Hobson, Michael Kostroff, John W. Lawson, Philip J. Lewis, Gabriella Pizzigoni, Rene Rivera and Pam Trotter. After the whirlwind of opening night and unexpected COVID cancellations, John Douglas graciously found some time to chat with me on the phone.

Though Michael Michetti’s staging has some extraneous elements, Adrián González and Ed F. Martin shine through in fully-developed performances. They carry dense dialogue through nuances of tension, desire, and discomfort in a journey that belies the tight space of the cell in which the entire discourse takes place.

Michael Michetti directs this classic two-hander with Adrián González and Ed F. Martin. Ed, a familiar face on the Los Angeles stages, managed to squeeze out some time between rehearsals to answer a few of my queries.
