With Tony Award-winning musicals A Chorus Line and Rogers and Hammerstein’s The King and I, plus the empowering story of Steel Magnolias, Agatha Christie’s classic whodunnit Murder on the Orient Express, and the family-friendly holiday spectacular Elf the Musical, Drury Lane introduces what’s sure to be a thrilling 2022/23 theatre season.

This news is something wonderful! Paramount Pictures will remake Rodgers & Hammerstein’s classic musical, The King and I. Paramount reportedly intends to 'reimagine this classic story with a contemporary perspective that explores diversity and the contrasting worldviews of the characters by drawing from real history and the musical.'

THE KING AND I is a grand musical with classically sung music which appeals to a large segment of the theater population. The central themes of abuse of power, slavery, and women's position in society may have improved since the 1950s, but the struggle continues.

The national tour of THE KING AND I kicked off a three-night run in Sioux Falls, SD on Tuesday night and while it may have been a bitter -20 degrees outside, inside the audience was transported back to hot and tropical 1860s Siam where even the idea of snow was laughable to the children of the King.

Facts and trivia surrounding the original production of 'The King And I,' which starred Gertrude Lawrence and Yul Brynner. Lawrence would die of liver cancer a little more than a year into the run, at the age of 54.

Pedro Ka'awaoa is honored to be bringing King Mongkut to life in The King and I's national tour. He has a BA in Music from Harvard University.
