Norm Lewis to Receive Onyx Award, 9/24

Norm Lewis will receive an Onyx Award at a gala celebration on September 24 at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, Florida. The awards recognize outstanding achievements of African-Americans and those of the African Diaspora.

Lewis is set to star in the upcoming THE GERSHWINS' PORGY AND BESS with Audra McDonald at American Repertory Theatre. The production will then transfer to Broadway's Richard Rodgers Theatre where it will open on December 17.

Norm Lewis most recently played King Triton in Disney's The Little Mermaid at The Lunt-Fontanne Theater on Broadway. His other Broadway credits include the roles of Javert in Les Miserables, Billy Flynn in Chicago, Painter in Amour, Eddie in Michael John LaChuisa's The Wild Party, Jake in Side Show, John in Miss Saigon and The Specialist in The Who's Tommy. He has also appeared in Actors Fund concerts of Dreamgirls, Chess, and Hair. He recently released his debut CD This Is The Life.

Onyx Awards will also be presented to Margaret Miller, Frederica S. Wilson, Dr. Frederick Humphries, The Florida Highwaymen, and Willie Williams.
