The beloved musical Oklahoma! is just weeks away from its debut as the most heartwarming, lively show ever to be performed by students at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre Paul and Sandra Goldner Conservatory of Performing Arts.

Slated for performances May 18 and 19 at Jupiter Community High School's auditorium (due to exciting summer renovations underway at the Theatre), Oklahoma! follows a high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys as they strive for statehood in the Oklahoma territory. The charming cowboy Curly finds romance with Laurey - a winsome farm girl - amidst the backdrop of the sweeping plains at the turn of the century. With such beautiful melodies as "Oh, What a Beautiful Morning" and "Out of My Dreams," this delightful story will leave theatergoers singing along.

"Our Conservatory students have had the opportunity to explore classic Agnes De Mille choreography, and audiences will see square dancing, fight sequences and even a few rope tricks," said Brian Andrews, one of the musical's directors. "You won't want to miss our students in action in this dynamic story."

The first writing collaboration of Rodgers and Hammerstein, Oklahoma! celebrates the adventure of the American dream through song and dance. It will feature 72 young performers in grades 3-12 who have spent the past year immersed in both rehearsals and dramaturgical research.

"Our students have learned so much from examining historical aspects of the storyline - the lifestyles of the time period, the journey west and the struggle between homesteading cultures," said Julie Rowe, director of education for the Theatre. "Such a rich story has enabled our students to gain a true understanding of how Oklahoma came to be the 46th state to join the union - which has, in turn, helped them to create full and complete characters on stage."

Oklahoma! is directed by Conservatory instructors and Broadway veterans Anna McNeely and Brian Andrews, with assistant director Lea Roy and vocal coach Sarah-Helen Land. Oklahoma will take place Saturday, May 18, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m. at Jupiter Community High School's auditorium, located at 500 North Military Trail in Jupiter.

Tickets for Oklahoma! are $20 for adults; $15 for children. All tickets are general admission. To purchase tickets, call the box office at (561) 575-2223 or visit www.jupitertheatre.org.
