HOW I BECAME A PIRATE, based on the best selling book by Melinda Long, will premiere at the REP as the second show of the 2009-2010 season. The show opens October 10th, 2009 and runs until November 8th, 2009.

HOW I BECAME A PIRATE is a rollicking tale about a boy who gets that chance when Captain Braid Beard recruits him for his exceptional digging skills, necessary for proper treasure burying, of course! Jeremy thinks the pirate life is great, until he thinks of home and realizes that pirates don't get tucked in at night and don't get to play a good game of soccer.

The REP brings patrons an exciting opening day experience this year with thier Opening Bash. This event will take place after performances of HOW I BECAME A PIRATE at 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 10, 2009.  Everyone will receive a free ticket to attend the Opening Bash when you present your ticket at the door on October 10th. You must have tickets to that day's performance to attend the Opening Bash.

Director Jeffrey M. Revels says, "Melinda Long's book with illustrations by David Shannon is extremely popular and remains a best-selling picture book since its' publication in 2003. It was awarded many, many citations and spawned a sequel- Pirates Don't Change Diapers, published in 2007. Now, this story has been crafted for the stage and is enjoying a healthy life at theatres for young audiences across the country". Mr. Revels is the Artistic Director for The REP and has directed many productions at The REP including Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business and The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood.

Audiences are also invited to join The REP on Saturday, October 17th at 5:30pm for Sonny's Family Night. The performance of HOW I BECAME A PIRATE will be followed by a dinner provided by Sonny's Bar-B-Q. Tickets for Sonny's Family Night, including the show, are $16 for youth (17 and under) and $22 for adults. Ticket upgrades are available for season subscribers for $7.

HOW I BECAME A PIRATE is presented by Millennium Marketing. Show times are Saturdays at 11:00am and 4:00pm and Sundays at 2:00pm and 5:00pm.
