James Comtois has stepped down as Co-Artistic Director and Resident Playwright of the indie theatre company Nosedive Productions ("Nosedive"), effectively immediately.

"This wasn't an easy decision, but the time has come for me to move on," said Mr. Comtois, who is leaving Nosedive after forming the company 13 years ago with fellow Co-Artistic Director Pete Boisvert. "Doing Nosedive has been an absolute blast, and is something I am and will always be immensely proud of."

"I was definitely saddened to hear James' decision, but I can see that it is the right one for him," Mr. Boisvert added. "I want to thank James for his tireless dedication to Nosedive over the years. In addition to being an incredibly talented writer, he has been an amazing collaborator and a true friend, and I would not trade the many years we have worked side by side for anything."

Mr. Boisvert, Company Manager Stephanie Cox-Williams and Artistic Associate Patrick Shearer plan to continue producing their horror anthology series, The Blood Brothers Present...

Meanwhile, Mr. Comtois plans to form a new creative venture to be announced at a later date.

To celebrate the life of the company under Mr. Comtois' and Mr. Boisvert's joint direction, Nosedive plans to throw a gala in September that will be free and open to the public. Details to arrive soon.

Since its formation in 2000, Nosedive Productions has staged the original plays Monkeys, Allston, The Awaited Visit, Ruins, Two Parties, Evil Hellcat (and Other Lurid Tales), Mayonnaise Sandwiches, Dying Goldfish, The Adventures of Nervous-Boy, Suburban Peepshow, Colorful World, Infectious Opportunity (co-produced with The Brick), The Little One, Captain Moonbeam & Lynchpin (also co-produced with The Brick), and its own idiosyncratic adaptation of A Christmas Carol.

The company also co-produced the serial plays Pinkie, Speed Demons, Entrenched, and Starboat in collaboration with the Vampire Cowboys Theatre Company.

In addition, Nosedive staged original and classic Grand Guignol horror plays through its The Blood Brothers present... series, including: An Evening of Grand Guignol Horror, PULP, The Master of Horror (which included new adaptations of Stephen King stories), The New Guignol, Freaks From The Morgue and RAW FEED.

The company received Off-Off-Broadway Review Awards for Overall Excellence for its plays The Awaited Visit and Mayonnaise Sandwiches and nominations for New York Innovative Theatre Awards for The Adventures of Nervous-Boy (Best Actor in a Leading Role - Mac Rogers) and Infectious Opportunity (Outstanding Original Full-Length Play).

In 2009, nytheatre.com named Nosedive as one of its People of the Year.
