On Friday, July 22, 2016, Taryn Sacramone, Executive Director at Queens Theatre presented the theatre's 28th season to the press as well as Queens Theatre subscribers, members and supporters. Queens Theatre's new season, which will begin in October 2016 and continue through May 2017, will feature Dance, Theatre and Family programming along with many special events. Artists joined Queens Theatre Board members and staff for the announcement.

"In our 28th season, we will be presenting work by some longtime members of Queens Theatre's artistic family, and also expanding that family - working with new artists and companies, and producing theatre. Our audiences can expect an interesting, diverse season which I hope they will find compelling and memorable," said Executive Director Taryn Sacramone.

"Queens Theatre is a first-class performing arts venue and this season it will once again offer top-notch programming that will be sure to delight both borough residents and visitors," said Queens Borough President Melinda Katz. "The Theatre's great staff, led by Executive Director Taryn Sacramone, did an outstanding job in putting together what will be an exciting series of performances."

As a Performing Arts Center and a Producing Organization, Queens Theatre has the unique opportunity to produce new work, and to present the work of other prestigious organizations.

In the Theatre Series this season, Queens Theatre will feature two American classics and one new play: the theatre will produce The Miracle Worker by William Gibson and a poignant new comedy, In the Car With Blossom and Len by Joni Fritz. Queens Theatre will also present the Walnut Street Theatre production of Neil Simon's hilarious comedyLast of Red Hot Lovers.

In the Dance Series, three Queens Theatre audience favorites will return. The electrifying Keigwin + Company will open the Dance Series in October with a special tribute to Leonard Bernstein. Paul Taylor, hailed as "the greatest choreographer alive" by the New York Times, will return to Queens Theatre with his company in December 2016 followed by Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, one of the nation's premier Spanish dance companies, in February 2017. Rennie Harris Puremovement, the first and longest running hip-hop Dance Company, will make their Queens Theatre debut in April 2017.

The Family Series will feature three shows based on beloved children's books:Seussical, Junie B.'s Essential Survival Guide to School and Pete the Cat.

Queens Theatre will also present multiple Special Events. It is currently partnering with Lincoln Center Education to bring free outdoor screenings of Lincoln Center performances to Flushing Meadows Corona Park every Friday night at 8pm from July 29 to August 19. Upcoming performances include Nutcracker (July 29), Show Boat (Aug. 5), the 2015 Richard Tucker Opera Gala (Aug. 12) and Act One (Aug. 19).

Titan Theatre Company, in residence at Queens Theatre for a third season, will present their production of A Christmas Carol in December 2016 and Twelfth Night in March-April 2017.

Calpulli Mexican Dance Company, a company dedicated to producing dance-based work that promotes the rich diversity of Mexican and Mexican-American cultural heritage, will bein residence at Queens Theatre this season. They will present two shows: Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) in October 2016 and Boda Mexicana (Mexican Wedding) in March 2017.

Queens Theatre will also present Visuality, an innovative concert that will mix live classical music and the visual arts. Latin Dance Fiesta, a dance showcase featuring four dance companies, each representing a Latin-American country, will be back in April 2017 by popular demand.

Queens Theatre is proud to present The Apothaetae's Spirits of Another Sort, a workshop production of William Shakepeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream in March. The Apothetae is a company dedicated to the production of plays that explore and illuminate the "Disabled Experience."

Queens Theatre has a proud history of developing new works of theatre, and its New American Voices reading series will continue in 2016-2017. All events in the series are free.

The Apothetae is a company dedicated to the production of plays that explore and illuminate the "Disabled Experience." Shakespeare's timeless comedy contains three worlds - the Athenians, the Fairies, and the Rude Mechanicals. "Spirits Of Another Sort" is a one-hour adaptation of the play which examines the themes of War, Chaos and Otherness and features an integrated cast of able-bodied, physically disabled and intellectually disabled actors to represent these distinct worlds.
