FLAGS, FIGURES, ®EVOLUTIONS (an autobiographical debtology) is set for Thursday, July 12 and Friday, July 13 at 7.30 pm. at Kabayitos Theatre (Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center - 107 Suffolk Street). It's free.

Employing humor, memory and history, plus 160 provocative&evocative photos, Saviana zooms in on her life during the totalitarian regime of dictator Ceausescu sliding into the Romanian revolution and the fall of the Iron Curtain in a no-facebook era; the endless transition towards democracy; her arrival in NYC two weeks before 9/11; the impact of flags, statues and other symbols of identity; immigration, theatre, debt, credit scores, celebrities, and even a dinner with Marx.

Saviana Stanescu (www.saviana.com) is a Romanian-born award-winning playwright. Recent productions include: Aliens With Extraordinary Skills (Women's Project, NYC; Sacramento, California; Cincinnati, Oklahoma City, Mexico City; published by Samuel French), Waxing West (La MaMa Theatre, 2007 NY Innovative Theatre Award for Outstanding Full-length Script), For a Barbarian Woman (Fordham/EST). Her plays have been developed at: Lark Play Development Center, NYTW, New York Stage&Film, Long Wharf, EST, PS122, HERE, etc. She holds an MA in Performance Studies (Fulbright), and an MFA in Dramatic Writing, both from NYU, Tisch School of the Arts. Saviana teaches at NYU and ESPA – Primary Stages. She is the artistic director of Immigrants Artists and Scholars in New York (IASNY) and NEW YORK WITH AN ACCENT.

This show is part of the undergroundzero festival downtown NYC and its performative lectures series on DEBT.
