McCarter Theatre Center has announced the final two productions of its 2012-13 Theater Season: Elevator Repair Service's production of The Select (The Sun Also Rises) and Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods, produced in association with Fiasco Theater.

The 2012-13 season will open with Christopher Durang's world premiere comedy, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, followed by a limited engagement of Elevator Repair Service's production of The Select (The Sun also Rises).  In January 2013, the season will continue with Edward Albee's Pulitzer Prize-winning play A Delicate Balance, directed by Emily Mann, followed by Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale, directed by Rebecca Taichman.  For the final production of the 2012-13 season, McCarter will partner with the acclaimed and inventive Fiasco Theater to present Stephen Sondheim's enchanting musical Into the Woods.

McCarter Theatre welcomes back Elevator Repair Service (ERS), who will perform The Select (The Sun Also Rises), the company's celebrated adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises. In the tradition of GATZ, ERS has applied their theatrical imagination to this three-hour adaptation of Hemingway's masterpiece novel. With cutting wit, doomed romance, and a live bullfight that has to be seen to be believed, this is an exquisite, wine-soaked homage to one of the finest novels ever written. The Select will be presented as a limited engagement in the Matthews Theatre.

The final production of the season will be Into the Woods with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine, in an inventive new production in the Berlind Theatre.  McCarter will team up with members of Fiasco Theater, a young and vibrant ensemble based in New York, whose recent 6-person production of Cymbeline, was a runaway hit off-Broadway last fall. Together, we will conjure this enchanting tale into being with whimsy, theatrical invention, and only ten actors and a single piano.
