Hot on the heels of a highly successful season including - Christopher Durang's hilarious comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (now on Broadway with six Tony Award nominations), Edward Albee's poignant drama, A Delicate Balance , and Into the Woods reimagined by Fiasco Theatre -McCarter Theatre Artistic Director Emily Mann has announced the five Theater Productions for McCarter's 2013-2014 season.

The new season will include two Pulitzer Prize-winning plays, a magical adaptation of an ancient Chinese legend, and the ambitious new adaptation and translations of two works by the 18th-century French playwright Pierre Beaumarchais.

The centerpiece of McCarter's 2013-2014 Theater Series will be The Figaro Plays: The Barber of Seville and The Marriage of Figaro by Pierre Beaumarchais. Directed and adapted by Stephen Wadsworth, these comedies that inspired the well-known operas are sure to be lavish, stunning productions and great fun for everyone. McCarter will produce these plays together in the spring of 2014, in a repertory schedule that will include opportunities to see both plays in one day.

"At the core of our Theater Series is a culture of storytelling. Stories have the power to make us laugh, challenge us, break down barriers, and unite us as a community. That's what theater is all about," said Emily Mann. "It's where a community comes together to share an event." From Mary Zimmerman's imaginative adaption of the ancient Chinese love story, The White Snake (perfect for the whole family) to August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Fences (under the inspired direction of Phylicia Rashad, who was last seen at McCarter in August Wilson's Gem of the Ocean) and David Auburn's Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning modern drama Proof (directed by Emily Mann), McCarter's 2013-2014 Theater Series offers something for everyone.
