JEFFREY HATCHER'S HAMLET, the latest piece by Minnesota's own acclaimed playwright, was originally seen in a workshop as part of the Illusion Theater's 2013 Fresh Ink series. Last winter, it hit the road for a successful tour throughout Minnesota. Now, the one-man show comes full circle, back at the Illusion for its premiere and first full-run staging from today, October 2-25 during the theater's 40th anniversary season.
In Jeffrey Hatcher's Hamlet, the year is 1967.

Aspirations are running high in the town of Steubenville, Ohio, as 11-year-old Jeffrey takes the director's chair for the first time in his young life. Through hilarity and mishap, he leads his fellow fifth grade classmates through rehearsals of an adaptation of Shakespeare's greatest drama. The audience consisted of teachers, parents and other kids. The first show sold out, so they added a second. It, too, sold out. It was Hatcher's first hit.

The Jeffrey Hatcher's Hamlet creative team includes Director Michael Robins, set design by Dean Holzman, lighting design by Michael Wangen and image design by Jonathan Carlson and Lindsay Woolward.

Illusion Theater is located on the eighth floor of The Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts, 528 Hennepin Ave. in downtown Minneapolis. Tickets for Jeffrey Hatcher's Hamlet are $20-40. Group discounts are available for groups of 10 or more people. Tickets are available at the Illusion Theater Box Office at 612-339-4944 or online at www.illusiontheater.org.
