Chanhassen Dinner Theatres is pleased to announce the 20th anniversary of its renowned summer theatre camp program, newly renamed: CHAN DT MUSICAL THEATRE CAMP. Since 1992, more than 10,000 kids and teens have learned about the magic of musical theatre as only Chanhassen can do it. CHAN DT MUSICAL THEATRE CAMP is an educational camp program that's also terrific summertime fun. Kids and teens, ages eight to eighteen, are given opportunities to explore a wide spectrum of musical theatre components including voice, movement, costumes, scenery, stage combat and more -- all taught by professional members of the Chanhassen Acting Company, designers and choreographers making the Chanhassen student theatre experience truly stand out above other offered "theatre" camp programs.

CHAN DT MUSICAL THEATRE CAMP's executive director, Michelle Barber, has appeared in dozens of Chanhassen shows and on other Twin Cities' stages. Each day, students take in a three-hour session with an instructor, learning basics and practicing skills in a variety of fun and entertaining exercises and projects. "Students discover and polish their talents, and learn to love and appreciate theatre and enjoy it from an insider's perspective. The week culminates in a presentation by the students for their family members. This isn't a production, but instead, more like an exhibition of what we've worked on during the week," said Barber. "We've been doing this long enough to know what kids like - what engages them, and what works best for a week-long format so we can squeeze as much valuable content into the camp experience. I also want parents to know we welcome kids with all levels of experience. We want your kids and grandkids to walk away with a once-in-a-lifetime experience."

Week-long, half-day sessions are available for youths ages 8-12 and teens ages 13-18. Morning Youth sessions are available for the weeks of June 20, June 27, July 18, and July 25. Afternoon Youth sessions are available for the weeks of June 20, June 27. Teen sessions are offered afternoons the weeks of July 18, and July 25. Returning by popular demand for the fourth year, is a special week-long, all-day, in-depth TEEN INTENSIVE (ages 13-18) camp session for the week of July 11. Auditions are held for admission to TEEN INTENSIVE camp. See the website for specific instructions.

Offered new this year is a full-day session specifically for students aged 10-15. The emphasis during this one special camp week (week of June 13) will be to put a show together from the bottom up. It will be a crazy-busy, wonderful week with the students working to create their own musical production. NEW BONUS to 2011 camp registrants: each camper will receive one show ticket to see Jesus Christ Superstar.)

The cost for half-day, week-long camps is $225. The special all-day camp week, and all-day TEEN INTENSIVE sessions are $450. There are no aftercare programs provided. Enrollment is limited.
CHAN DT SUMMER THEATRE CAMP sessions fill very quickly. Registrations are easily made online beginning February 1. For more information or to register, go to Chanhassen Dinner Theatres' website at www.ChanhassenDT.com, or call 952-934-1525.
