Symphonic and Jazz Bands Take the Stage on April 7

Valencia's Symphonic Band, under the direction of Mike Davis, and Jazz Lab Band, with direction by Chris Dolske, will perform at the East Campus Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Musical selections will include de Meij's program symphony "Lord of the Rings" inspired by the J.R.R. Tolkien novel, a Louis Armstrong tribute, and popular standards such as Billie Holiday's "God Bless the Child" and Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon" sung by student vocalists.

Music for Strings and Clarinet in the Atrium on April 8

The String Ensemble will play Bach's "Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor," Hayden's "String Quartet in G Major" and Elgar's "Serenade in E Minor," with guest clarinetist Morris Doyle performing Mozart. The concert gets underway at 7:30 p.m. in the atrium of Building 3 on Valencia's East Campus.

Classical Music at St. Michael's on April 10

The program will include the Valencia Singers and the String Ensemble performing classical music
including Brahms' "How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place," Thompson's "The Road Not Taken" from
his Frostiana collection, Bach's "Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor," and Handel's coronation
anthem, "Zadok, the Priest." The featured guest artist for the program is organist Andrew Walker. The concert will take place at 2:30 p.m. at St. Michaels Episcopal Church, located at 2499 N. Westmoreland Dr. in Orlando.

An Eclectic Mix of Classical, Soul, Rock and Pop on April 12

Three groups-the Valencia Singers, the String Ensemble and Valencia's own version of the "Glee" TV show, the Contemporary Ensemble-will perform everything from Brahms to the Beatles for their Spring Choral Concert at 7:30 p.m. in the East Campus Performing Arts Center.

Valencia's "House Band" Rocks Out on April 14

The Commercial Music Ensemble, the group led by Troy Gifford and considered the unofficial "house band" of the school, will cover The Who's "My Generation," Amy Winehouse's "Valerie," Florence and the Machine's "Dog Days are Over," and Brandi Carlile's "Dreams." The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in the East Campus Performing Arts Center.

Opera and Musical Theatre Favorites on April 22 and 23

Opera and musical-theatre students will perform a version of Leonard Bernstein's comic
operetta "Candide," followed by scenes from classics such as "Hello Dolly" and contemporary musicals such as "Wicked," "Next to Normal" and "The Color Purple." The Spring Opera Workshop led by Carla DelVillaggio will be performed at 7:30 p.m. in the East Campus Performing Arts Center.
