Sarasota's original antidepressant is back and ready to bring on the laughter in 2010. On the heels of the first and successful Sarasota Improv Festival, FST Improv begins their 7th full season in the Goldstein Cabaret, with another exciting year ahead. Every Tuesday night this winter, FST Improv will take to the stage to bring new and exciting high jinks. Not even the performers know what to expect - until it happens. Comedy is back in action January 26th for the winter season in the Goldstein Cabaret.

Under the direction of FSTs resident funny girl Rebecca Langford, who also happens to be the Managing Director of the theatre said, "Life is Improv - you never have the same day twice. The issues we discuss are as current as today's headlines, and more often than not, we do not know what the real outcome will be. That's what makes it funny - exploring what could happen. Improv is truly theatre of the immediate, it's interactive. And it's funny. What more do you need?"

Taking what is right in front of them, in the form of audience suggestions, FST Improv creates characters and sketches on the spot. No one - not even the performers themselves - knows what is going to happen next. It is this element of the unknown that makes every Improv show unique - and what makes for some exciting moments onstage.

The FST Improv cast is returning cast members Adam Ratner, Christine Alexander, Tim Beasley, Angel M. Parker, Chris Friday, Catey Brennan and Jim Prosser on the piano. This season will welcome Improv newcomer, Samantha Stern. Stern joins the cast from most recently Orlando. She hails from the tropical Island of Staten, New York. She studied improv at Chicago City Limits and has worked professionally with NYC Comedy Sportz, Just the Funny, Walt Disney World, and SAK Comedy Lab.

FST Improv performances begin January 26th. Shows are Tuesday Nights at 8:30 in the Goldstein Cabaret. Doors open at 7:45 p.m. with general admission seating and a cash bar. Tickets are $12 per person and may be purchased from the FST Box Office in person by phone (941) 366-9000 or online www.FloridaStudioTheatre.org. Advanced purchase of tickets is recommended.

Florida Studio Theatre is grateful to Northern Trust for Co-Producing the 2010 FST Improv Season.

Known as Sarasota's Contemporary Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre was founded in 1973 by Jon Spelman. Starting out as a small touring company, FST traveled to places such as migrant camps and prisons. The company eventually settled down into a permanent home, acquiring the former Woman's Club building - now renamed the Keating Theatre. In the years that followed, Florida Studio Theatre established itself as a major force in American Theatre, presenting contemporary theatre in its three theatre venues: the Keating Theatre, the Goldstein Cabaret and its newest space, the Gompertz Theatre.

Even with its growth, Florida Studio Theatre remains firmly committed to making the arts accessible and affordable to a broad-based audience. Under Richard Hopkins, Artistic Director and CEO, FST develops theatre that speaks to our living, evolving, and dynamically changing world. As FST grows and expands, it continues to provide audiences with challenging, contemporary drama and innovative programs.
