Trick Studio Presents An Award Winning Documentary About Female Film Pioneer Lotte Reiniger

Before Walt Disney, there was a trailblazing woman at the vanguard of animation. Influenced by folktales and legends, Lotte Reiniger was a tour de force of creativity and innovation: she invented the multiplane camera and created the first animated feature. This stunning film explores the life and times of a woman who is finally being given her due.  The film just won Best Short Film at the American Documentary Film Festival and Film Fund, and is headed to the Newport Beach Film Festival next!

ABOUT LOTTE REINIGER
"No one else has taken a specific animation technique and made it so utterly her own.... To date she has no rivals, and for all practical purposes the history of silhouette animation begins and ends with Reiniger." - Philip Kemp, BFI

Lotte Reiniger was a ground-breaking inventor and innovator. Her unique methods of storytelling and visual style inspired many, including modern day filmmakers Henry Selick, Anthony Lucas and Trick Studio. Her 1926 film, THE ADVENTURES OF PRINCE ACHMED is the oldest surviving feature length animation. She also invented the multi-plane camera, which revolutionized the world of animation. Her narration in LOTTE THAT SILHOUETTE GIRL is utterly charming, self-deprecating, and quite magical.
