Range View Productions is thrilled to present EURYDICE, written by Sarah Ruhl and directed by Trevor Biship. EURYDICE will preview on Thursday, April 9 at 8pm and will open on Friday, April 10 and run through Saturday, May 16 at the Hayworth Theatre, 2511 Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles.
EURYDICE, by Pulitzer Prize nominee Sarah Ruhl, is a bittersweet and off-beat retelling of the classic love story of Orpheus and Eurydice, this time through the perspective of the departed heroine, Eurydice. After her arrant death on her wedding day, Eurydice finds herself in an aphasic underworld, where she reunites with her father while struggling to reconcile with her lost love, Orpheus. As visually breathtaking as it is curiously charming, passionate, and heartbreaking, Eurydice is the play that established Ruhl as one of America's most inventive contemporary dramatists. ABOUT THE CREATIVE TEAMSarah Ruhl (Playwright) studied under Paula Vogel at Brown University (A.B., 1997; M.F.A., 2001), and did graduate work at Pembroke College at Oxford. Subsequently, her plays have been produced at theatres across the country, including Lincoln Center Theater, The Goodman Theatre, Arena Stage, South Coast Repertory, Yale Repertory Theatre, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, among others, and internationally. She is the recipient of the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize for The Clean House (2004), was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2005, and won a McArthur Fellowship in 2006. Currently, her newest show, In the Next Room (or the Vibrator Play) is receiving its world premiere at Berkeley Rep.
SCOTT WERVE (Producing Director - RANGE VIEW PRODUCTIONS) is a Directing graduate from the UC Irvine School of the Arts, who has worked up and down the west coast, most notably at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and the San Jose Repertory Theatre. He has produced and directed classical, contemporary, and experimental works with great distinction, including Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Tooth of Crime, and Fortinbras Gets Drunk. As a writer, Scott has also punched out short fiction for Salon.com (If I Were Lemon Pie), and original plays at Shakespeare Santa Cruz (Stories of the Night Told Over). In each of the above projects, Scott's overriding focus has been to popularize progressive storytelling, by intersecting the sturdy aesthetics of the mainstream with the atypical creativity of the underground.
