Patrons coming to performances in Segerstrom Hall now through August will be amazed by the exhibit of Broadway-inspired LEGO art created by some of the most talented and imaginative members of LUGOLA (LEGO Users Group of Los Angeles).

The sculptures are themed to shows in the Center's 2014-2015 Broadway and Curtain Call series: PIPPIN (November 11 - 23, 2014), DR. SEUSS' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! THE MUSICAL (December 10 - 14, 2014), KINKY BOOTS (December 30, 2014 - January 11, 2015), DIRTY DANCING (February 3 - 15, 2015), NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT (March 17 - 22, 2015), GUYS AND DOLLS (April 14 - 19, 2015), ANNIE THE MUSICAL (May 13 - 24, 2015), MOTOWN THE MUSICAL (June 16 - 28, 2015) and THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (August 5 - 16, 2015). The colorful sculptures are filled with action and often iconic moments from the shows. The exhibit will be up through The Book of Mormon, which ends May 25, Jersey Boys (June 24 - July 13, 2014), Solo for Two: Natalia Osipova and Ivan Vasiliev (July 25 - 27, 2014), Ghost the Musical (July 29 - August 10, 2014) and ONCE (August 19 - 31, 2014).

The team of designers was led by Paul Lee of Placentia (Pippin), with a team comprised of John Cooper of San Diego (Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas! the Musical), Mariann Asanuma of Escondido (Kinky Boots), James Banks of Long Beach (Dirty Dancing), Eric Tetangco of La Habra (Nice Work If You Can Get It), Peter Aoun of Azusa (Guys and Dolls), Guy Himber of Sherman Oaks (Annie the Musical) and Ray Silva of Lake Forest (The Phantom of the Opera).

Hundreds of pieces were used in each work to create the detailed representations. In addition to their design ingenuity, the artists drew from their knowledge of the individual shows in order to instill a sense of personality and communication into each tableau. To the Center's knowledge, this is the first time LEGOs have been used by any performing arts center to illustrate the fun of Broadway and the world of the great American musical. Other LEGO exhibits have been seen at BrickCon in Seattle, Designer Con in Pasadena, An Unexpected Art Show in Los Angeles, Star Wars Weekend at LEGOLAND in Carlsbad and various LEGO stores.
