Los Angeles' premier cabaret room, The Catalina Jazz Club, hosts cabaret artist Karen Gedissman for a special performance tonight, January 27th at 7pm. Tickets: www.catalinajazzclub.com (323) 466-2210.

Ms. Gedissman returns to the cabaret scene in Los Angeles after having performed her critically acclaimed one-woman show Karen G. Passionately! as well as starring in such musicals as A Chorus Line (Maggie), Hair (Sheila), Three-Penny Opera (Polly), Evita (The Mistress), Violet (Violet) and Judy Garland in Babes, an original musical based on Garland's life.

The performance will feature a wide array of musical theater favorites, popular songs, and some eclectic songs that will be new to many members of the audience. The show, produced by Dan Jablons, with assistance from associate producer Adryan Russ, is directed by long-time award-winning producer/director Bruce Kimmel. Ms. Gedissman will be accompanied by Shelly Markham, the show's musical director and arranger, and Nate Light on bass.

Ms. Gedissman's performance will include a tribute to her longtime friend and dance teacher, Annette Cardona, best known for her performance as Cha-Cha in the hit film Grease, where she dazzled audiences in a dance number with John Travolta. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Annette Cardona College Fund.

Karen Gedissman has worked in the theatre since she was a child, having performed in critically acclaimed productions such as A Doll's House and The Time Of Your Life at South Coast Repertory and Des McAnuff's original musical 80 Days at the La Jolla Playhouse. Karen has traveled the world as a headliner with her critically acclaimed one-woman show Karen G. Passionately! after performing it at the Cinegrill and Gardenia Cabaret Clubs in Los Angeles.

She was also seen in the independent feature film Chavez Ravine, produced by the Hispanic Coalition Media, directed by Norberto Barba. Most recently, she was seen at the Ford Amphitheatre in Hollywood as Lola in Barrio Babies, a new musical for the "Latino Play Reading Series," established by the Latino Playwrights in Los Angeles. In the last few years, Karen has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with various well-known artists throughout Los Angeles at the Mbar, Catalina Jazz Club and Chez Fraser-Cohn, as well as using her Latin talents to sing with renowned Latin jazz artist, Louie Cruz Beltran. Along with being a true triple-threat, Actor-Singer-Dancer Karen is now becoming a songwriter, with two songs that are soon to be produced. More information is available at her website, www.aboutkareng.com.
