Rena Wilson, the Diablo Theatre Company's education coordinator and a performer familiar to audiences throughout the Bay Area, has added another role to her already-busy schedule.

Wilson has joined the cast of Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon, the internationally acclaimed San Francisco institution known for its zany spoofs of pop culture with extravagant costumes and outrageously huge hats. The show, now in its 36th year, has earned the reputation as the longest running musical revue in theatre history.

Since graduating from San Jose State University with a degree in music and vocal performance, Wilson has performed with many theatre groups, including the East Bay's Diablo Theatre Company, Contra Costa Musical Theatre, Altarena Playhouse, and San Francisco's 42nd Street Moon, and New Conservatory Theatre.

Wilson will continue to direct Diablo Theatre Company's Performing Arts Academy at their Firehouse in Pleasant Hill. There she utilizes her dancing, acting and singing skills to train theatre-oriented youths between the ages of 4 and 20.

She was involved in similar activities for the Lafayette Town Hall Theatre and Walnut Creek's Civic Arts Education program.

"Performing is my first love," says Wilson, "and teaching, especially children, is my second."
