Harold Clurman Lab Theater (HCLAB) is proud to announce the world premiere of Don K. Williams' new play, Democracy(sic). play runs from September 15 - October 14, 2017 for 12 performances. cast features HCLAB alums Dan Evans, VictoriA Martinez, James Warfield, and first-time company members Alex Best, Carlis Shane Clark, Steven Humphreys, Stacey Jordan, and Josh Owen. Johnny Patrick Yoder will make his HCLAB directing debut.

All shows will offer a "pay what you can" ticket structure in an effort to make theater-going accessible to patrons of all income levels.

Artistic Director Tom Oppenheim on the production: "One of my American heroes is Vincent Harding who said that art should "open up light in the darkness. I'm thrilled that the Harold Clurman Lab Theater will open up a light in the darkness with Democracy(Sic)."

The Lab Theater's most recent work in Los Angeles includes Rocket to the Moon, Road to Nirvana, Talking to Terrorists, the Ovation-Recommended and Ovation-Nominated run of Lebensraum by Israel Horovitz, and the Ovation-nominated run of Long Way Go Down by Zayd Dohrn. In New York, the Harold Clurman Lab Theater recently presented Beto O'byrne's Loving and Loving.

Synopsis:

The new Comedy Democracy (sic) closely examines the epidemic of hypocrisy in American culture. From politics to race to religion to the media, Democracy(sic) uses seven unique scenes to skewer this country's ability to talk out of both sides of its mouth while still maintaining a strong sense of righteousness.

THE Harold Clurman LABORATORY THEATER COMPANY is the Stella Adler Studio of Acting's/Art of Acting Studio's professional theater company. The Lab aims to produce socially relevant theater committed to the standards and ideals set out by Stella Adler, Harold Clurman and the Group Theater. The mission of the Lab is to provide the community, through theater and discussion, with a place of exploration and experimentation of what it means be a human being.
