Interlock is the first comprehensive biography to explore the life of Mark Lombardi, his work, his mysterious death, and his lasting impact on the art and technology community. He was a controversial and brilliant artist

whose intricate drawings straddle the line between art and information and reveal the symbiotic and incestuous connections between banking, organized crime, intelligence agencies, and petrodollars. At the time of his death, his growing success began to draw the attention of the nation's most influential art museums as well as that of the FBI and the CIA. He is in fact the only artist that the FBI and the CIA have ever studied in depth.

Lombardi was a controversial and brilliant artist, his masterpiece on the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) was purchased by the Whitney Museum and his other notable drawings highlighted numerous provocative subjects, including the Iran-Contra affair, the World Finance Corporation, and the relationship between George W. Bush's Arbusto Energy and Harken Energy Corporation. His pervasive influence is cyber security, where his drawings are now considered essential models for mapping social networks.

EXCERPT FROM INTERLOCK

"Over the years, Lombardi's death has transformed itself into the ultimate piece of Conceptual Art. He was fond of remarking to the younger artists he mentored that every exhibition is a well-baited trap, that by the time a show is ready to be seen, the artist must have already stirred so much buzz among his dealers, critics, and other connections in the art world that its success is a fait accompli. As his prices, boosted by the frisson of a murder-mystery, have since soared to a quarter-million dollars for one of the larger drawings (an astronomical sum for works on paper), it is easy to imagine him chuckling somewhere in the afterlife in his characteristic cigarette rasp not only at the length of the list of the people who might want to kill him but at their celebrity-the Vatican, the Mafia, the Bushes, the CIA!"
