Spoofy ANTON CHEKHOV'S CHERRY ORCHARD OF THE LIVING DEAD Mashes Up Russian Lit with Zombie-Fu

Written and directed by Troy Heard, Anton Chekhov'S CHERRY ORCHARD OF THE LIVING DEAD is a madcap mashup of the late 19th Century Russian playwright's works with a healthy dose of George A. Romero-style Zombie-Fu!

The peripatetic Madame Ranevskaya has returned to her ancestral manor following yet another whirlwind farewell tour - complete with extended stop in Tijuana - only to find things turned upside down. Instead of marrying off her nubile daughter Masha to the local scholar, she's boarding up windows and grabbing pistols to ward off the coming onslaught of resurrected serfs. Questions arise: What are Gregorovich Samsonovsky's true intentions? Will ancient Anfisa finally make a warm cup of tea? And what is that smell emanating from the barn? Only Pepito the Chihuahua knows for sure...

"CHERRY ORCHARD swept the Vegas VAlley Theatre Awards in its first year, winning awards in both performance and design," says Heard. "Being able to revisit it with some of the original cast members - including the divalicious Kellie Wright - has given us the opportunity to punch up the jokes and gags even more. Although lovers of Chekhov will love some of the references, the spoofiness swings wildly from Hamlet to The Brady Bunch. Whether you know The Seagull or not, the show is so ridiculous you'll find something to laugh at." This production is sponsored in part by a grant from the Nevada Arts Council.

Performances of Anton Chekhov'S "CHERRY ORCHARD OF THE LIVING DEAD" will be January 19 through February 12; show times are 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and 5 p.m. on Sundays.
