The 12th season of The White Theatre, produced by The J's reimagined Arts + Culture Department, includes something for everyone, from musicals and concerts to visual arts and literature presentations. The powerhouse season includes four locally-produced shows, several musical concerts, a choreography showcase and a new Artist-in-Residence offering with the Kinnor Philharmonic.

"The J is broadening its appeal in arts and culture by diversifying our offerings," said Tabitha Schmidt, director of The J's Arts+Culture Department. "We are adding depth and breadth like never before!"

The season includes:

  • Sept. 10-11: One-woman play about Dr. Ruth Westheimer "Becoming Dr. Ruth"

  • Nov. 5-20: Musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, "Sunset Boulevard" (local production)

  • Feb. 11-19, 2017: Neil Simon play "Lost in Yonkers" (local production)

  • March 5, 2017: Professional dance showcase, "Open Stage at The J"

  • March 25-April 2: Ray Bradbury play "Fahrenheit 451" (local production)

  • April 9: Kansas City Chorale concert, "Shirim Yehudim-Music of the Jewish Tradition"

  • May 6-7: One-woman show featuring Jana Robbins "I'm Still Here"

  • July 8-23: Disney's musical "Beauty & the Beast" (*a co-production with Theatre in the Park)

(Full descriptions for each event are available at www.thejkc.org/arts+culture.)

In recent years, The J and Johnson County Theatre in the Park has co-produced several shows including last year's popular musical "Shrek". The 2017 season has the two organizations joining forces again.

"The J is proud to co-produce with Theatre in the Park," said The J's Schmidt. "This unique and exciting partnership allows us to deliver a production of the highest quality and connects our two organizations in a meaningful way."

"We're so happy to have the opportunity to collaborate with our friends at the White Theatre," said Tim Bair, Producing Artistic Director for Theatre in the Park. "Our past collaborations have opened the world of theatre here in Kansas City to an even broader demographic, and I'm thrilled we get to bring this icon of musical theatre to life in two really great theatres!"

The season ticket program has been revamped to provide preferred seating, free and easy ticket exchanges and a design-your-own flexible package ranging from "pick four" to the full season. Season tickets go on sale July 1 and a season ticket may be purchased for as low as $60. In addition, the Patron ticket program has been enhanced to provide additional "perks" at every level including first choice seating, seatback surprises and complimentary tickets. Patron tickets are currently on sale with complete benefit information at www.thejkc.org/patrons.

Tickets may be ordered online, by phone (913-327-8054) or in person at The J's Box Office.

In its effort to expand its offerings, additional Arts + Culture events will include the Jewish Film Festival in January 2017, literary salons, Art Schmooze programs and the Midwest Jewish Artists Lab.
