Forwarding Kansas City as a major national center for the development and production of new works, KC Rep's OriginKC: New Works Program offers playwrights the financial, creative, and artistic resources required to develop vital, diverse, theatrical work.

Featuring top local and national playwrights, the OriginKC: Monday Night Playwright Series offers script-in-hand readings of new plays on their journey to becoming future hit shows. Step into the world of a new play as it's built, and meet the playwrights whose work electrifies stages across the country.

The final two events have now been confirmed:

Monday, February 20, 7 pm

Holy Laughter by Catherine Trieschmann

In this hilarious and moving new play by Kansas playwright Catherine Trieschmann, a newly donned Episcopal priest must rally her flagging congregation, even as she wrestles with changing sexual mores and her own doubting human heart.

Monday, March 13, 7 pm

On Shoulders Now by Harvey Williams

Harvey Williams, founding Artistic Director of KC MeltingPot Theatre, brings us a powerful family story about one man's memory of life and resilience from beyond the grave.

"I'm thrilled to welcome two playwrights I deeply admire to our reading series lineup," said Marissa Wolf, Director of New Works at KC Rep Theatre. "Catherine Treischmann's searing, rich voice brings a wonderfully playful and human heartbeat to Holy Laughter. I've admired Harvey Williams since I moved here; his muscular and rhythmic language will have people on the edge of their seats in On Shoulders Now."

Catherine Trieschmann's plays include CROOKED, HOW THE WORLD BEGAN, HOT GEORGIA SUNDAY, THE MOST DESERVING, HOLY LAUGHTER, ONE HOUSE OVER and OZ 2.5. They have been produced Off-Broadway at the Women's Project Theater, in London at the Bush Theater and with Out-of-Joint at the Arcola Theatre, South Coast Repertory, the Denver Theater Center for Performing Arts, Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Penguin Repertory Theater, Florida Stage, Rivendell Theatre Ensemble, among others. She has received commissions from South Coast Repertory, Manhattan Theater Club, the Denver Center for Performing Arts and Milwaukee Repertory Theater. She's the recipient of the Weissberger Award, the Edgerton New Play Prize, and the Otis Guernsey New Voices Award from the Willian Inge Playwriting Festival. Her plays are published by Samuel French in the U.S. and Methuen in the U.K. She lives in a small town in Western Kansas.

Harvey Williams, a UMKC graduate, and founder of KC MeltingPot Theatre is the author of 5 original stage productions; "Old School," "The Session," "On Shoulders Now," "Mom F***ing. Com" and "2121".
