Houston Grand Opera's award-winning community collaboration and education initiative, HGOco, presents the beloved tale of The Princess and the Pea at Miller Outdoor Theatre. The talented artists of HGOco's touring Opera to Go! program will perform this 45-minute family-friendly opera live on September 21, 22, and 23.

With music by Mary Carol Warwick and a libretto by Mary Ann Pendino, The Princess and the Pea tells the story of a brave princess who has faced off against dragons and ogres-but will a single pea be her greatest challenge yet? This operatic treatment of the classic Hans Christian Andersen tale features an unsteady prince, an overbearing queen, and a mountain of mattresses.

Performances run Wednesday, September 21, Thursday, September 22, and Friday, September 23, 2016. 11 a.m. daily at Miller Outdoor Theatre, 6000 Hermann Park Dr., Houston, Texas 77030. Cost of Admission: Free.

Since its inception in 1955, Houston Grand Opera has grown from a small regional organization into an internationally renowned opera company. HGO enjoys a reputation for commissioning and producing new works, including 61 world premieres and seven American premieres since 1973. In addition to producing and performing world-class opera, HGO contributes to the cultural enrichment of Houston and the nation through a diverse and innovative program of performances, community events, and education projects that reaches the widest possible public. Through HGOco, Houston Grand Opera creates opportunities for Houstonians of all ages and backgrounds to observe, participate in, and create art. The NEXUS Initiative is HGO's multi-year ticket underwriting program that allows Houstonians of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy world-class opera without the barrier of price.
