Opera Naples Launches 'Renata Scotto Opera Program'

Opera Naples' inaugural "Renata Scotto Opera Program" is offering a once-in-a-life-time opportunity for exceptional singers from around the world who are seeking specialized musical instruction with the legendary opera star, Renata Scotto. Additionally, opera supporters can grant a gift of an underwriting sponsorship or scholarship towards the "Renata Scotto Opera Program." The world renowned Italian soprano, stage director and teacher is known by millions as one of the greatest singers of all time. As a participant of the "Renata Scotto Opera Program," select singers will receive multiple private voice lessons with Mme. Scotto, as well as vocal coachings from an expert staff on the repertoire of their choosing. In addition to public masterclasses, each session of the "Renata Scotto Opera Program" will conclude with four concerts, open to the public, scheduled January 21, January 25, March 13, and March 18, 2017 at the Wang Opera Center. An Evening in Monaco Annual Benefit Gala hosted by Renata Scotto is Friday, January 20, 2017 at 6 pm at the Ritz-Carlton,Tiburon in Naples, Florida.

Opera Naples' Artistic Director, Ramón Tebar will partner with Mme. Scotto on the execution of the program and masterclass concerts. Mr. Tebar, a long time colleague of Renata Scotto, was instrumental in securing the "Renata Scotto Opera Program" exclusively to Naples, Florida. When asked about the program, Mr. Tebar explains, "Artistic education is a column of our society. In an organization like ours, we are striving to transmit art, music and outreach to young talent and the community at large. Renata is one of the best sopranos in history and I couldn't think of anyone better to lead this opera program for Opera Naples."

About Renata Scotto:

RENATA SCOTTO, world renowned Italian soprano, stage director, and teacher is known by millions as one of the greatest singers of all time. For more than 40 years, Scotto performed regularly on the stages of the world's greatest opera houses, working with the world's most illustrious singers and directors. Her repertoire included more than 60 roles, and she has a wealth of awards as well as a substantial catalogue of recordings. She has been honored by the Metropolitan Opera Guild in their Met Legends series and was the subject of a PBS documentary feature, Renata Scotto - Prima Donna. She sang more than 300 performances in 26 roles at the Met, and she inaugurated the first Live from the MET telecast opposite Luciano Pavoratti. She won an Emmy award for playing the title role of La Gioconda in the first live international telecast from the San Francisco Opera.

Scotto has established herself as a sought-after teacher on the international circuit and has presented master classes at the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute, Yale University, The Russian Opera Center in Moscow, Tokyo University, Pittsburgh Opera, Paris Opera Bastille, the Lyric Opera of Chicago's American Artists Program, and the Lindemann Young Artists Program at the Metropolitan Opera. In Italy, Ms. Scotto has presented master classes for the Young Artists Program at La Scala in Milan and for the Santa Cecila Academy in Rome where she is a permanent guest professor. The Italian Government partially sponsors the Renata Scotto Vocal Academy on the Italian Riviera. She has an honorary doctorate from the Julliard School and is a visiting professor at the Mannes School in New York.

About Ramón Tebar:

RAMÓN TEBAR is considered one of the leading Spanish conductors of his generation and is acclaimed for his musical versatility, compelling interpretations and orchestra building skills. Mr. Tebar has the distinction of being the first Spanish conductor to be appointed Music Director of an American Opera Company, the Florida Grand Opera (FGO); he continues his long-term relationship with FGO as Principal Conductor; and serves as Artistic Director of Opera Naples. A popular guest conductor worldwide in both the orchestral and opera arenas, Mr. Tebar also serves as Artistic Director of Florida's Palm Beach Symphony and until 2015 has served as Music Director of the Santo Domingo Music Festival in Dominican Republic.

Maestro Tebar has been honored twice with the Henry C. Clark Conductor of the Year Award by Florida Grand Opera (2010, 2013), and in 2014 was featured by the Miami Herald as "Top 20 under 40", by the Spanish journal ABC among "Ten International Spanish Conductors", and by Marca Espana among the most successful international Spanish talents in "100 espanoles". In 2014, Ramón Tebar received his highest honor to date: His Majesty, the King of Spain Felipe VI, granted Tebar the Cross of Office of the Order of Mérito Civil in recognition of his cultural accomplishments.
