Florida Repertory Theatre has announced that due to overwhelming popular demand, it will extend the run of Andrew Bergman's uproarious comedy, Social Security.

Originally slated to close on Nov. 20th, the comedy will now play through Saturday, Nov. 23rd in the Historic Arcade Theatre. Social Security proves that aging in-laws have never been funnier...unless they're yours!

"We're delighted to start our 16th Season off on the right foot with a huge hit and an extension," said Producing Artistic Director, Robert Cacioppo, "we wanted to give our audiences a reason to laugh, and it looks like it's working. This really is the most fun season we've ever put together, and between now and May the Arcade Theatre will feature six unique and delightful comedies."

The play opened to an unprecedented four sold out preview performances on Oct. 29th, and has enjoyed a week of packed houses and rave reviews. Charles Runnells of The News-Press called it "a reliable laugh machine that keeps you chuckling, and often full-on guffawing, from start to finish."

Chris Silk of The Naples Daily News raved that "the laughs kept rolling," and told his readers that "Florida Rep has a laugh or three for you. Social Security delivers more giggles than a Medicare co-pay and better chuckles than a visit to the VA. A sold-out crowd of seniors can't be wrong."

In this hilarious comedy from the author of Blazing Saddles, The In-Laws and The Freshman, David and Barbara Kahn have it made. They live their ideal life in a swank New York apartment surrounded by the finest in modern art and are isolated from their bizarre relatives. What could possibly go wrong? Everything! When Barbara's dreary and dissatisfied sister, Trudy, and her accountant husband arrive from Long Island with their near-senile Jewish mother in tow, the comic sparks fly, and the 'Chagall' hits the fan!

Social Security features Florida Rep favorites David Breitbarth, Kate Hampton, Carrie Lund, and David S. Howard, as well as Ann D. Hurst and Mark Lainer, seasoned veterans making the Florida Rep debuts. Founder & Producing Artistic Director, Robert Cacioppo, directs and is joined by an expert team of Florida Rep designers including Richard Crowell (set design), Matthew McCarthy (lighting design), Roberta Malcolm (costume design), Kate Smith (sound design), and Amy Massari (stage manager).

Social Security by Andrew Bergman plays through Nov. 23 in the Arcade Theatre with three added performances on Nov. 21, 22, and 23 at 8pm. Regular performances are Tues.- Sat. at 8pm, with matinees on Wed., Sun. and selected Saturdays.
