A corrupt general makes a wild and unimaginable grab for power, under the direction of his scheming wife - no, it's not Macbeth! Welcome to Slipstream Theatre Initiative's new take of a 19th Century one hit wonder - Alfred Jarry's UBU REX.

Just in time for the 2016 election cycle to rev full steam ahead, come laugh with us at the absurdities of power, money and greed in this satirical roller-coaster, set in "Poland." Watch as one man, with the help of the woman behind him, cheats, lies, murders and laughs his way to the throne, at any cost necessary. Slipstream's latest production of the 1896 satire tells an all too familiar tale, with a cavalier laugh in the face of despotism and bigotry.

The cast features Dan Johnson in the title role of Pa Ubu, Victoria Rose Weatherspoon as his calculating wife, Ma Ubu. Steve Carson is their dim-witted accomplice, Captain McNure, Miles Bond doubles as both King Wencelas and the Czar of all Russia, Maya Gangadharan as the good Queen of Poland, while Tiaja Sabrie rounds out the cast as Buggerlass - the unfortunate prince upon whose young shoulders lies the entire vengeance of his household. The production and adaptation is directed by Luna Alexander, with technical design and execution by Ryan Ernst. Meghan Lynch assistant directs and doubles as the lighting designer, while Bailey Boudreau serves as costume designer.

This UBU REX features a new adaptation of the script, with contemporary language mingling into the power-heavy dialogue of the 19th century original. Due to this, we must advise that this production is rated M for Mature... or more accurately, may be inappropriate for ages under 13.

The production runs April 16th through May 10th. April 16th through April 25th, performances are Saturdays at 8:00 pm, Sundays and Mondays at 7:00 pm. For the last two weekends, May 1st through May 10th, shows move to Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at 7:00 pm. Slipstream Theatre Initiative is located at 460 Hilton in Ferndale.

Tickets are $12 in advance only and available via www.slipstreamti.com or by emailing InsideTheSlipstream@gmail.com.
