Sanctified is a lively, entertaining musical, kept afloat by the strength of playwright Javon Johnson's well-crafted characters, a great cast of amazing singers, and updated arrangements of traditional church songs. Pastor Jones believes it's time to update the arrangements of the gospel songs his church choir regularly presents, and he's not sure his earnest yet somewhat insecure pianist is up to the task. So he asks his classically trained musician cousin, Pauletta, to whip the choir into shape. Her operatic speech patterns, name dropping and pretentiousness (she insists that everyone call her Dr. Jones) cause more dissention within the group. And laughs. They don't take her seriously. This musical will have you splitting your sides with laughter and stomping your feet with joy. Sanctified is directed for McCree Theatre by Cathye Johnson, with music directed by Marlon A. Miller.
