CSO Honors the Gershwins’ Artistic Legacy in Here to Stay

Created by members of the Gershwin family and their Tony/Grammy Award-winning team, the all-new multimedia symphony show, Here to Stay, features a number of newly arranged charts for orchestra plus rarely seen visual and audio elements from the Gershwin archives. The Columbus Symphony and pianist Kevin Cole will celebrate the lives of George and Ira Gershwin through family photos, artwork, and privately held manuscripts woven into a narrative evening of legendary music.

The Columbus Symphony presents The Gershwins’ Here to Stay at the Ohio Theatre (39 E. State St.) on Saturday, January 28, at 8pm.

Tickets are $23-$68 and can be purchased at the Ohio Theatre Ticket Office (39 E. State St.), all Ticketmaster outlets, and www.ticketmaster.com. To purchase tickets by phone, please call (614) 228-8600 or (800) 745-3000. The Ohio Theatre Ticket Office will also be open two hours prior to each performance. Students between the ages of 13-19 may purchase $5 PNC All Access tickets while available.

About pianist Kevin Cole
“America’s pianist” Kevin Cole has delighted audiences with a repertoire that includes the best of 20th century American music. Cole’s performances, especially his interpretation of Gershwin, have prompted accolades from some of the foremost critics in America. He is an award-winning musical director, arranger, composer, vocalist, and archivist who has garnered the praises of Irving Berlin, Harold Arlen, E.Y. Harburg, Hugh Martin, Burton Lane, Stephen Sondheim, and members of the Jerome Kern and Gershwin families.

Cole has worked as vocal arranger/accompanist for opera and musical theatre performers Sylvia McNair, Dawn Upshaw, Brian D’Arcy James, Karen Morrow, Christine Andreas, Hollis Resnik, Kim Criswell, and William Warfield.

He has given master classes in musical theatre vocal performance at the Interlochen Center for the Arts and North Carolina School of the Arts. He has served as Musical Director for Pasadena Playhouse, Michigan Ensemble Theatre, San Francisco Shakespeare Festival, and Royal George Theatre (Chicago). Cole currently works with songwriting legend Hugh Martin, who was vocal coach to Lena Horne, Ethel Waters, Judy Garland, and many others.

Cole’s discography includes the 1995 Gramophone Musical Album of the Year, Gershwin’s Oh, Kay! With soprano Dawn Upshaw, his critically acclaimed solo piano disc Cole Plays Gershwin, and his In the Words of Ira – The Songs of Ira Gershwin.
