On Monday, July 26th, New York Theatre Barn will present its monthly showcase for emerging writers and performers at the D-Lounge at the Daryl Roth Theater, which will feature the music of Joel Waggoner, Laurence O'Keefe (Bat Boy, Legally Blonde), Ryan Scott Oliver (Mrs. Sharp), Gaby Alter (Band Geeks), Joy Son, Julian Fleisher, and Kirsten Guenther. Performers for the evening include Broadway's Lindsay Mendez (Everyday Rapture, Grease), and Alex Brightman (Wicked). The first set will be RHYMES WITH SOUL: THE SONGS OF JOEL, music by Joel Waggoner and lyrics by Eric Price, Rebekah Melocik, Emily Peters, Ella Rose Chary, Lori Mannette, and Joel Waggoner. He may not have written the rhymes, but he fo sho wrote the soul, ya'll! In his New York City debut, ASCAP Award-winning composer Joel Waggoner performs his own music at the piano with the help of his three hags. Come judge him openly with booze and (enjoy/convulse in response to) his music. As a recent NYU Graduate Musical Theater Writing Alum and Native Cornfed Iowan, Joel Waggoner and his hags promise you a show stocked full of world-premiere songs and melodies you'll wish you could take home! And hey! Joel rhymes with soul. What more could you ask for? Three hags? Check. The set will feature Sara Galm, Sasha Weiss, and Beth Kirkpatrick.

The second set will be THE SHOWS OF Kirsten Guenther, where Kirsten will present songs from her upcoming musicals and shows currently in development with composers and composer-lyricists Laurence O'Keefe (Bat Boy, Legally Blonde), Ryan Scott Oliver (Mrs. Sharp), Gaby Alter (Band Geeks), Joy Son & Julian Fleisher. Directed by Eli Gonda, the set will feature Lindsay Mendez (Everyday Rapture, Grease), Alex Brightman (Wicked), Preston Sadleir, Sam Tedaldi, Alex Wyse, Lauren Blackman, and Julian Fleisher.

Under the direction of Joe Barros (Producing Artistic Director) and Reed Prescott (Executive Director), New York Theatre Barn is a not-for-profit theatre company dedicated to the investigation, development, and advancement of new evocative works, and strives to challenge the way in which new work is traditionally developed. Since its inception in 2007, NYTB introduced a monthly springboard event for emerging writers and performers (NYTB in the D-Lounge, NYTB at The Duplex), presented concerts and staged readings (including the musical Big Fat Cat with Bruce Vilanch and I Married Wyatt Earp with Tovah Feldshuh, directed by Tony-nominee Graciela Daniele) and produced fully realized productions (including Wood at NYMF with Tony Award winner Cady Huffman). Other productions include the musical parody Hey, You Know What Movie Would Make a Good Musical? at the Julia Miles Theatre and Bridget Bailey's one-woman play Child of Hungry Times, winner of Outstanding Production of a Solo Show (Planet Connections Theatre Festival). NYTB has grown into a vital force in the New York theatre scene where it has been a launching ground for challenging new work including Adam Gwon's Ordinary Days, Cait Doyle's MAC Award winning Hot Mess in Manhattan, Katie Thompson's R.R.R.E.D. and Bobby Cronin's The Beaten Path (formerly B.R.A.T.T. Camp). New York Theatre Barn is currently developing an original commission-Speargrove Presents, a new musical based on actual events surrounding a conservative Texas High School's planned production of the musical Rent. NYTB is a member of the National Alliance for Musical Theatre.
