Michael Feinstein welcomes the Music Has Power Awards® back to Feinstein's at Loews Regency on Wednesday, September 5th. Helping Feinstein salute music's power to help and heal people with serious neurological diseases and conditions is Cabaret legend Marilyn Maye.

This year the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function (IMNF), will present the 2012 Music Has Power Award to music industry innovator VH1 President and IMNF board member, Tom Calderone. The award is presented annually to recognize individuals in the arts, sciences and business communities whose contributions advance the IMNF's groundbreaking music therapy research, programs and treatments.

"Our work in music therapy has always depended on the support, commitment and energy of our friends and colleagues in the music industry and Tom Calderone is a prime example of that vital, shared relationship," states IMNF Executive Director Dr. Concetta Tomaino. "It is after all, the musicians and those that showcase their work to the wider world audience that create those significant, personal musical memories so essential to the success of music therapy. Tom's work on our board and his leadership of VH1 and its sibling music networks are prime examples of this crucial collaboration."

Previous recipients of the Music Has Power Awards include world renowned neurologist and author Dr. Oliver Sacks, Grateful Dead percussionist Mickey Hart, the late Henry Z Steinway, president of the iconic piano company Steinway & Sons, drum pioneer Remo Belli, and film director/producer Jim Kohlberg,

The 2012 Music Has Power Awards, generously underwritten by BNY Mellon Wealth Management, begins at 6PM and features live performances by Michael Feinstein, legendary Jazz vocalist and cabaret diva Marilyn Maye. Highlighting the set will be a special tribute to recently passed musical great, Marvin Hamlisch, who was also a former IMNF board member.
