Angelina Jolie, Maggie Smith, Daniel Day Lewis, Damian Lewis, and John Barrowman were honored in the Queen's Birthday Honors. This list of honors were released today. The honors system recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution improving the lives of others. Over the years, people have received honors for long-term voluntary service, courageous deeds, entrepreneurship, and more. There are also several categories in which people can receive honors, including education, arts, science, and political/civil service.

Angelina Jolie recieved the title of honorary dame for her humanitarian work, in which she has spent the majority of her adult life. Her main focus has been ending sexual violence and rape. She is also a United Nations special envoy for refugees.

Dame Maggie Smith was recieved the title of companion of honor for services to drama.

Daniel Day Lewis received a knighthood for his services to drama.

Damian Lewis received an OBE, which is given to those who have played a major role in local affairs in their chosen field.

John Barrowman received an MBE, which is given to those who have shown outstanding service to a community and often includes hands-on work.
