In 1960, Reuben Mattus used the finest ingredients to create his rich, velvety Hagen-Dazs ice cream. Sixteen years later, his daughter, Doris, opened the first Hagen-Dazs Shop at 120 Montague Street in Brooklyn. Forty years later, on July 16, 2016, the brand celebrates the grand reopening of this shop, now franchised by Michael Schuster.

"Celebrating the grand reopening of the original Hagen-Dazs shop here in Brooklyn is another exciting milestone in the history of the brand," said Adam Hanson, Hagen-Dazs Shoppe Company President and General Manager. "Hagen-Dazs was first crafted in the Bronx and has deep roots throughout all five boroughs. This is our home and we're thrilled to share our extraordinary ice cream with the community."

The shop has gone through a complete renovation and features the Hagen-Dazs brand's new, more modern footprint, which incorporates old-world tradition with modern touchpoints that create the ice cream caf experience of the future. "This shop is akin to Brooklyn. Brooklyn is full of old-world heritage and has seen its own transformation into a modern and very desirable New York neighborhood," said Franchise Owner Michael Schuster. "Our team is proud to be part of the Hagen-Dazs family and the Brooklyn community."

"Life in Brooklyn remains as sweet as Jackie Gleason described, as we celebrate the reopening of the original Hagen-Dazs Shop in Brooklyn Heights," said Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams. "During this summer season, visitors to the Montague Street shop will have an opportunity to cool down with delicious treats while celebrating a borough that has never been hotter."

On Saturday, July 16, everyone is invited to celebrate and help welcome New York City's original Hagen-Dazsice cream shop into the community as a modern-day Brooklyn resident. Festivities will include:
