Argus Brewery Earns Bronze Medal At World Beer Cup

Argus Brewery's Holsteiner Lager received a bronze medal in the American-Style Amber Lager category at the Brewers Association 2016 World Beer Cup that took place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 6, 2016 following the Craft Brewers Conference & BrewExpo America .

One of the largest commercial beer competitions to date, the 2016 World Beer Cup saw 6,596 beers from 1,907 breweries in 55 countries. Entries were judged by an elite international panel of 253 judges, with the chance for one gold, one silver and one bronze award in each of 96 beer style categories.

In the American-Style Amber Lager category, Argus' Holsteiner Lager was one of 59 entries. Steamworks Brewing Co.'s Steam Engine Lager (Durango, CO) and Boxing Cat Brewery's Ringside Red (Shanghai, China) earned gold and silver respectively, in the same category.

"This year's judge panel was our most international ever, with three-quarters of judges travelling to Philadelphia from outside the U.S.," said Chris Swersey, competition manager, World Beer Cup. "Judges commented throughout the week that overall beer quality continues to improve across the spectrum of world beer styles. While breweries may hold the awards, beer drinkers around the world are the true winners."

Founded in 2009 by father and son team, Bob and Patrick Jensen, Argus Brewery is located on the South Side of Chicago in the landmark Pullman District within the historic Joseph E. Schlitz distribution stables. Along with Holsteiner Lager, Argus' flagship brands include Ironhorse Chicago Common, Pegasus IPA, and EZ Rider Pale Ale.

In 2015, renowned beverage expert and Brew Master Mary Pellettieri teamed up with Patrick Jensen, Co-Founder and Brew Master, to refine and tweak each of the brands in order to create a line that has distinctiveness and represents the values of the brewery.

"With Argus we want our flagship brands to be approachable. Holsteiner is a great representation of that malt accented, very smooth and gently hopped," said Pellettieri. "It's an approachable craft beer with all the flavor and uniqueness that makes it special."
