During American Diabetes Month last month, the American Diabetes Association asked the country to vote online each week for their favorite seasonal foods and flavors. The winning picks inspired a special collection of recipesa menu for America's healthy holiday meal. The special occasion meal was unveiled today in a cooking video, featuring award-winning cookbook author Robyn Webb, MS, LN, who is also the Food Editor of Diabetes Forecast, the Association's healthy living magazine.

"During the holiday season, keeping on track with eating healthy is very important, yet many people are afraid of losing the taste when they make a recipe healthier," said Robyn Webb, MS, LN, Food Editor of Diabetes Forecast. "The American Diabetes Association is excited to show people how they can cook a traditional holiday meal that is delicious and also healthy, and we hope these recipes will inspire holiday celebrations for families across the country. Nutritious, delicious food is an important part of our fight to Stop Diabetes."

The demonstration video showcases Webb cooking up healthy versions of holiday classics including herb-roasted turkey and a holiday pumpkin pie with maple-ginger crust. In addition, the video unveils the following winning side-dish recipes to round out the perfect holiday meal:

Nearly 30 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes and another 86 million Americans have prediabetes, placing them at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. Cooking healthfully is a key component to managing diabetes and preventing type 2 diabetes. To help people make healthier decisions when it comes to food, the Association challenged Americans during American Diabetes Month to live a healthier lifestyle through the America Gets Cooking SM to Stop Diabetes campaign.

America Gets Cooking to Stop Diabetes, presented by Sun Life Financial, empowers the public to cook nutritious and delicious food, and be more active. To view the winning recipes, visit diabetesforecast.org/holidaymeal
