Most readers are familiar with the story of Cinderella, but what many are unaware of of is that a village fishmonger named Noodles lives in the very same kingdom. In "Noodles Needs A Nap" (published by Balboa Press), Noodles teaches young readers that they don't have to meet Prince Charming in order to have a happy ending.

"I was in the Broadway production of Cinderella and in one of the scenes I played a fishmonger. I ended up naming my character Noodles and even gave her a little back story. My moniker stuck and my fellow actors would even refer to me by Noodles," author and illustrator Kristine Bendul explains. "One day, in a state of extreme exhaustion, I stated, 'Noodles needs a nap,' and the proverbial light bulb literally blinked on over my head and I knew I had to draw her. I went home that night after the show and got out my old sketch book and pencils. Noodles was born."

In addition to dispelling the notion that one needs a relationship to be happy, "Noodles Needs A Nap" also provides readers with a glimpse into the village Cinderella grew up in, expanding the mythology behind the popular folk tale.
