The People Movers Present: < /CL!CK >

The People Movers, known for creating and producing socially, politically, and culturally relevant works, announce the world premiere of </ cl!ck >. On September 8, 9, and 10, 2016, the seventh chapter of the series will take place at Gowanus Loft in Brooklyn. The production will feature three evening performances as well as a free, open daytime installation. The production includes choreography by Kate Ladenheim, visual design and programming by Pierre Depaz, and electronic music by Myles Avery.

< /cl!ck >, is an interactive, multimedia installation that explores how culture, personality, and subconscious bias are revealed by our online behavior: our clicks, likes, follows, views, swipes, and profiles. The electronic music and visual design based on the dancers' movement and behavior - and all visual design elements are run via the Internet. The work is inspired by the intricate ways that we curate our online selves, and the content we see as a result. The performance is a weird mix of goofy narcissism, parodied action, and uncomfortable cultural awareness.

"< /cl!ck > is an ambitious, premiere multimedia work, and the culmination of many of my previous conceptual explorations." explains Kate Ladenheim, Choreographer and Artistic Director. " Currently, I am interested in the influence of the internet on the art making, cultural trends and values of the millennial generation. I am also curious about how dance as a live art form exists amidst rapid technological innovation. Couched within these explorations, < /cl!ck > presents a candid take on 21st Century reality."

< /cl!ck > will premiere Thursday - Saturday, September 8-10 at 8:00 pm. Individual tickets are priced at $20 (early bird rate before August 15) and $25, and can be found at http://clickinstallation.eventbrite.com.

The installation portion runs Thursday through Saturday from 2 pm - 6 pm, and is free and open to the public.

CRAWL 7 will take place at Gowanus Loft, located at 61 9th Street in Brooklyn. It is accessible by the G and F trains.

Gowanus Loft is the project space of The Vanderbilt Republic ("VR"), a creative agency based in Gowanus, Brooklyn. The agency was formed to catalyze the impact of creative expression in all modes. VR sees artists as leaders, activists, and agents for positive change. Through their work with the creative diaspora VR offers boutique solutions in: creative production, design & direction; artist representation; landscape projection design. George Del Barrio is VR's Founder × Creative Director.

ARTIST INFORMATION

Kate Ladenheim: Choreographer & Producer

Kate Ladenheim (BFA The Boston Conservatory) is the Artistic Director of The People Movers, a dance and Production Company. Known for creating socially, politically, and culturally relevant dances, the company also supports the arts community by producing multidisciplinary events and performances that involve artists and audiences alike.

Ladenheim's choreography has been praised as "stunning... an interplay of oppositions... pure, unbounded physicality meeting intricate, balletic delicacy" (the Dance Enthusiast), and has been presented across the Northeast. Ladenheim was a 2014-2015 Leimay Fellow at CAVE and the winner of the Rider University Emerging Choreographer Competition. The People Movers have enjoyed residencies at The Ballet and Dance Center in Syracuse, New York, The Field (New York, NY), and through the White Wave Rising Choreographer Residency Program, and have been commissioned by the Juventas New Music Ensemble.

Ladenheim is the founder and Executive Producer of CRAWL, a nomadic, multidisciplinary arts presenting series that inspires community between artists and audiences. She is also currently a performer in Third Rail Project's production of "The Grand Paradise," and Digital Marketing Associate at Amy Jacobus Marketing.

Pierre DePaz: Visual Designer + Programmer

Pierre is a political scientist, digital artist and professor who has lived and worked in Europe, Asia,and the Americas. After completing a Masters in Media Studies from New York University, he has focused his work on the relation between the technological and the political, through developing digital games, interactive installations, free-form plays and experimental websites. His performances, installations and games have been shown at The Brick Theater, Indiecade East, the Game Developer's conference and The Chimney NYC. He has been invited to speak at the Digital Games Research Association, the Different Games conference and the Philosophy of Computer Games conference. His work has been featured in Kill Screen, Mashable and Le Monde. Pierre is currently adjunct faculty at New York University.

Myles Avery: Composer

Myles Avery is an electronic composer and producer. While nerdy about things like integrating Max programming into modular systems, he's equally passionate about lush, intricate songwriting. With a knack for spacious, dreamy electronics, Myles incorporates unique, meticulously crafted musical ideas with familiar, pop-culture samples that encompass everything from boom-bappy soul to dark, late night grooves. The result is a deliciously unpredictable dreamland that simultaneously moves dance floors while demanding a later, critical listen.
